Job Summary
LASP has made pivotal scientific advancements using cubesats as platforms for space-based instrumentation. LASP maintains a robust and expanding program for cubesat design, integration, test, and operation. As part of our established cubesat ecosystem, LASP has built a ground station network operating at UHF, S-band, and, in the future, X-band frequencies. LASP currently has 3 Cubesats on orbit, 3 planned to launch in 2023, and 3 planned to launch in 2025.
The Senior Ground Station Engineer will be responsible for maintaining the current ground station configuration, planning/implementing expanded radio compatibility, collaborating with colleagues across the science, engineering, and mission operation divisions, and participating in cubesat integration, test, and commissioning efforts.
The ideal candidate would be capable of understanding, owning, and making technical contributions to the ground station at all levels from the theoretical link-level analysis; through the hardware-centric radio testing; and up to, and including, software supporting the ground station link.
Who We Are
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
- Improving and maintaining the hardware and software front ends of the ground stations in the LASP network (Boulder CO, Fairbanks Ak, and Parker CO).
- Refining and maintaining automation routines to configure the ground stations for upcoming passes.
- Documenting and maintaining the current ground station configuration, including implementation of physical, electrical, or software maintenance procedures.
- Supporting the development of program specific radio processing flowgraphs.
- Planning for and implementing upgrades to expand radio and frequency compatibility.
- Collaborating with colleagues across the science, engineering, and mission operation division.
- Participating in cubesat commissioning test and commissioning efforts.
What You Should Know
- All University of Colorado Boulder employees are required to comply with the campus COVID-19 vaccine requirement. New employees must provide proof of vaccination or receive a medical or religious exemption within 30 days of employment.
