Job description
- Assists the Director of Sales in the development and implementation of sales strategies to secure new business for McCormick Place within their market segment. Establishes space assignment and pricing for all prospective events in their assigned market segment.
- Creates detailed bid proposals for prospective events at McCormick Place in conjunction with campus partners including Choose Chicago and MPEA owned hotels.
- Serves as the event organizer’s initial McCormick Place contact. Guides customer from initial planning through the execution of a license agreement, then ensures a smooth transition to the final event planning and services offered by the Event and Show Operations Departments.
- Negotiates license agreements and financial terms in accordance with McCormick Place policies and pricing guidelines, subject to Director of Sales approval.
- Reviews scheduling of events in McCormick Place as a member of the Scheduling Committee and recommends booking priorities.
- Participates in the activities of various industry associations and meetings, establishing and maintaining contact with potential event organizers, educate them on the advantages of hosting their events in McCormick Place.
- Manages assigned accounts and provides assistance to Choose Chicago personnel to include: site visits, securing proper dates, space assignments, price quotations, and written assistance with bid proposals.
- Makes sales trips and calls to future and existing event organizers of McCormick Place.
- Develops and maintains effective communication between Choose Chicago Sales and Services, and McCormick Place Sales, Events, and Food and Beverage Departments regarding client information and updates.
- Initiates client entertainment, appreciation programs, and attends industry trade shows and conventions, and other miscellaneous opportunities aimed at client retention.
- Assists the Director of Sales on recruiting, hiring, training and evaluation of the team.
- Assists the Director of Sales on training new/current members with campus partner organizations (Choose Chicago, Hyatt Regency McCormick Place and Marriott Marquis Chicago).
- Oversees the preparation of bid proposals for prospective events for new Sales Managers as directed.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Will assist Director as noted above.

Education and Experience
- Bachelors’ Degree from four-year College or University in Business, Hospitality, Marketing, Communications or related field preferred.
- Prior training/mentorship experience preferred.
- Minimum 7 years sales related experience required in hospitality or related field.
- Facility/industry experience preferred.
Skills and Abilities
- Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills required.
- Ability to effectively supervise staff.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects.
- High aptitude for figures and advanced writing skills.
- Professional presentation, appearance, and work ethic.
Computer Knowledge
To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
CMP preferred.

Hours of work and travel requirements
Ability to work long and irregular hours that may vary due to functions and may include days, evenings, weekends and holidays. Some travel required.
