Soleeva Energy is a full service, residential and commercial solar installer looking for experienced and driven individuals to join our ever-expanding team. We are currently looking for a full-time Solar Design Engineer. The experienced Senior Solar Design Engineer is to lead the company’s electrical design and engineering efforts. This position will be in-person with opportunities for a remote/hybrid position for properly qualified candidates.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Design and develop Residential and Commercial detailed PV and ESS electrical design packages, utility interconnection drawings, site layout drawings, zoning permit packages, as-built drawing packages and other deliverables.
  • Coordinate structural, civil, and electrical components into a working plan set
  • Ensure designs and plan sets to meet requirements across a variety of jurisdictional agencies (e.g., DSA, DGS, OSFM, and local AHJs)
  • Serve as the lead internal technical resource for topics including ESS and PV design, interconnection and NEC requirements, electrical calculations, medium voltage and microgrid design, emerging industry technologies, AHJ and utility standards, design standards and other areas.
  • Develop, manage and continuously improve internal Excel and AutoCAD design tools, templates, and processes.
  • Review internal and external design documents and provide feedback on design concept and code compliance, adherence to contract requirements, constructability, cost optimization and other factors for a complete and accurate design package.
  • Provide technical and drafting training for solar designers and other company staff.
  • Coordinate with outside engineering consultants for drafting and/or sealing of structural, civil, and electrical designs, third-party engineering reviews, and other support.
  • Participate in site visits to determine design considerations and constraints, interconnection requirements, project constructability, and other important factors.
  • Provide support to procurement and construction teams, including the preparation of bills of materials, evaluation of product technical data, and processing of RFI’s and other field and design change inquiries.
  • Research emerging industry technologies and products and evaluate for implementation into company operations with the goal of reducing cost and increasing project quality and efficiency. Make informed recommendations to management as needed.
  • Coordinate and provide engineering support to business development and marketing teams as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or design (or a related field) is preferred, but not required. An equivalent combination of experience and/or education in relevant position related topics will be considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years PV design experience (2 years minimum in commercial PV), computer aided design experience (AutoCAD or equivalent)
  • Proficiency with current versions of AutoCAD, including use of dynamic blocks, layer organization, external references and data links, document control and general drafting best practices.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including the use of Excel macro functionality (macro coding experience desired).
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to design and coordinate multiple projects at various stages
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (including 2020 version), with a thorough understanding of Article 690, 705 and other applicable sections.
  • Thorough understanding of PV and ESS design principles, products and standards.
  • Knowledge of various local and regional utility and AHJ standards, processes and requirements (including typical interconnection application processes for major utilities in California) is highly preferred.
  • Must be an effective communicator and leader, with strong technical, critical thinking and analytic skills.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is preferred
  • Desire to participate and function as a true team player
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of assigned responsibilities/projects

Pay: $60,000-125,000

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, climb, crawl, push, pull, reach, sit, stand, climb ladders, and work with various tools and equipment. Must be able to operate a pallet jack and forklift. Have to ability to listen, understand, and communicate in writing and verbally. The employee will frequently be required to lift objects up to 75 pounds.
Requirements:

  • Clean driving and background record
  • Valid CA Driver's License
  • The ability to travel within California on a bi-weekly basis based on project location.
  • Must be able to successfully pass pre-employment screening requirements

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $92,668.63 - $167,210.10 per year
