PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The YMCA of Memphis & the Mid-South is seeking a dynamic, highly motivated, proven cause-driven leader for a tremendous career opportunity leading successful operations for a growing multi-million dollar organization. This position supports the mission of the Y, a leading nonprofit organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer, the Senior Vice President of Operations is responsible for the overall operation of all membership centers. This includes the direct oversight of vice presidents, center directors, associated product lines, and the operations of those facilities. The Senior Vice President of Operations also provides direction and leadership for the achievement of Association and center goals in accordance with the policies and standards established by the Senior Leadership team and Board.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Provide leadership and direction to center directors and staff on daily operations, to include the supervision of the VP level team members and all product lines within the
centers.
  • Responsible for fiscal management for centers and business units. Monitors monthly financial reports to assure that revenue targets are met and expenses are controlled.
Takes necessary action to improve performance and achieve financial goals.
  • Responsible for the overall development, training, and assisting in balancing the center(s) financial position through membership.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of membership, program services, and offerings and makes necessary adjustments to meet benchmarks.
  • Attracts and retains a highly competent, mission-oriented, diverse, and values-driven leadership team and workforce.
  • Supports and implements Association personnel policies and procedures.
  • Review and evaluate staff using predetermined goals and objectives.
  • Coach and train staff in skill and personal development areas as needed.
  • Provides strong leadership in developing and implementing major membership strategies through a thorough understanding of the value of YMCA membership and the
ability to grow/retain members.
  • Identifies emerging markets and trends and makes recommendations for expansion.
  • Gives direction and provides coordination to each program, goal, or task force to assure achievement of annual association program goals.
  • Provides leadership to philanthropy including grants, annual campaign and capital campaign ensuring success in reaching related both personal and team goals.
  • Provides leadership and support around board recruitment and development to the assigned advisory board and to center directors who are leading volunteers.
  • Identify, establish, and maintain strategic links with businesses, organizations, local government agencies, groups and individuals within the community whose influence,
support and/or assistance could be of value to the operations of the Association.
  • Initiates and implements business strategies relating to workflow, quality of programming, safety and experience.
  • Supervises and provides direction and assistance to district property directors, in coordination with the VP of Properties to ensure proper maintenance, cleanliness and
structural integrity of each center.
  • Promote a professional work environment.
  • Represents YMCA on Association-wide initiatives and strategic programming as requested.
  • Assists the COO in the planning and formulation of the long range goals of the organization.
  • Working hours may vary in order to meet company objectives, some after hours and weekends will be required as needed.
  • All other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Minimum Criteria for Candidates:
1. Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills and personal values consistent with the YMCA mission.
2. Minimum five years prior experience in a senior management role with a YMCA or related experience at a comparable organization with direct supervision of multiple levels
of staff and employees.
3. A successful track record in developing and strengthening community relationships and partnerships.
4. Experience developing new programs and reviewing and enhancing existing programs to ensure they are offered for both economy and effectiveness in broadening our
engagement in the communities we serve.
5. Fiscally sound business management approach and proven track record of budget oversight and fiscal management of at least $1 million in operating revenue and
experience operating multiple sites.
6. Experience in fundraising.
7. Experience working with Board and volunteer leadership structure.

Preferred Criteria for Candidates:
1. YMCA Organizational Leader Certification Preferred. Candidates without the certification will have three (3) years to complete certification requirements from date of hire.
2. Experience with strategic planning.
3. Experience with master facility planning and facility management.
4. Bachelor's degree in marketing, education, recreation or equivalent preferred.
5. Experience building relationships with and relating to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
6. Five or more years of related experience in supervision, membership marketing, financial management, fundraising and community program development.
7. Experience with computers including word processing and database software.
8. Ability to direct the total operations through volunteer development, supervision of staff, development and monitoring of branch budget, marketing and public relations, and
program development.

WORK SCHEDULE:
The schedule for this full-time position is generally Monday through Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm, though overtime, evenings, and weekend work may be required depending on the business need.
