Summary: Responsible for all shipping and receiving personnel and duties. Verify and keep records on incoming and outgoing shipments. Prepare items for shipment. Verify and record production and inventory. Manage McDonald’s inventory both onsite and offsite. Train and coach all dock employees on all dock tasks. Responsible for the inspection of dock equipment, the implementation and execution of the hi-lo training and testing program, the updating of all Standard Work Instructions related to the dock, and the scheduling of dock personnel. Duties include assembling, addressing, labeling and shipping merchandise or material; arranging for the transportation of products; and reviewing and approving dock personnel hours.

Individual requirements related to the duty:

  • Follow and enforce all safety practices and guidelines.
  • Supervise shipping and receiving operations in accordance with plant policies and procedures.
  • Train, coach, and communicate with all shipping and receiving employees.
  • Conduct employee performance reviews.
  • Responsible for shift schedule to include employee training, employee vacations, employee breaks, overtime assignments, back-up for absent employees and shift rotations
  • Coordinate with Human Resources for appropriate staffing levels, including interviewing potential candidates.
  • Responsible for quality control. Make adjustments as necessary during shift to produce product within specifications. Reject product outside of specifications.
  • Communicate with other Team Leaders, Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, Functional Areas, and Managers.
  • Ensure a clean and safe work area.
  • Ensure all shift paperwork is entered into the correct programs in the computer system.
  • Participate in waste and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Work with Quality on ensuring that all quality practices are being followed and enforced.
  • Follow up and enforce all disciplinary action in the company handbook.
  • Ensure all employees are working the correct hours.
  • Utilize designated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to deal with conflict and resolve difficult situations between personnel and peers.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule depending on customer requirements.
  • Ensure adequate supplies available and control supply spending.
  • Examine contents and compare with records such as manifests, invoices, or orders to verify accuracy of incoming or outgoing shipment.
  • Prepare documents such as work orders, bills of lading and shipping orders to route materials.
  • Determine shipping methods for materials using knowledge of shipping procedures, routes and rates.
  • Record shipment data such as weight, charges, space availability, and damages and discrepancies for reporting, accounting and record keeping purposes.
  • Contract carriers representative to make arrangements and to issue instructions for shipping and delivery of materials.
  • Confer and correspond with Business Unit Manager to notify and rectify problems such as damages, shortage, and nonconformance to specifications in a timely manner.
  • Requisition and store shipping material and supplies to maintain inventory of stock.
  • Deliver or route materials to departments using appropriate work devices.
  • Compute amounts such as space available, shipping, and storage.
  • Maintain/Conduct Inventory Control.
  • Communicate Inventory levels daily with appropriate parties.
Requirements:

Education/Certificates/Licenses/Experience:

High School Diploma or GED with a minimum 5 years’ experience in a shipping and receiving position and Hi-Lo training.

Preferred: National Career Readiness Certificate Silver

Some college classes

Prior experience in manufacturing environment

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures including Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for moving goods by air, rail, sea, or road, including the relative costs and benefits.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Knowledge of mathematics to solve problems.
  • Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.
