ABOUT THE ROLE:
NBC Universal has an exciting opportunity for a talented software engineer to become a Site Reliability Engineer with a specific focus on project engineering and automation solutions related to broadcast and media workflows for NBCU Operations and Technology (O&T). O&T supports enterprise Technology, Broadcast and Production systems across the NBCU portfolio globally.
The Site Reliability Engineer will leverage their software engineering background to apply DevOps and SRE principals to deploy and create new applications, integrations and services that serve to reduce manual effort and provide process improvements to existing and newly developed workflows across Enterprise IT, Broadcast, Media Fulfillment and Post Production.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in architecture discussions to identify efficient solutions for enterprise IT as well as broadcast and media workflows to improve the reliability of systems.
- Work with various business units and vendors to gather requirements and implement new software and hardware solutions.
- Partner with other engineering teams (Active Directory, Compute, Storage, Application Support, etc) to deliver best of breed solutions with an automation first mindset.
- Identify areas where manual steps could be eliminated, or inefficient processes could be improved through automation.
- Create high level architecture diagrams using Visio/Lucidchart/AutoCAD or other similar tools.
- Create documentation for developers and operation support teams
- Work with an agile software development team to create new apps and services from scratch and expand upon those created by other team members.
- Create and maintain Ansible Playbooks and Roles for both Unix, Windows, and Mac environments.
- Create and maintain automations to support cloud and on-premise technologies
- Stay up to date on new development and platform technologies and make recommendations for improved development approaches.
- Participate in on-call rotations and occasional after-hours maintenance.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience working with video transcode/QC, post production, and media asset management applications.
- Experience working with accelerated file transfer applications (Signiant and Aspera).
- Experience working with a variety of languages and technologies on both the front- and backend, including but not limited to git, Python, Ansible, Terraform, JavaScript (React and node), CSS3 and HTML5, (or similar configuration management tools).
- Experience working with and maintaining databases (Both SQL and NoSQL)
- Demonstrated ability to think critically about problems, decipher user preferences versus hard requirements, and effectively use online and onsite resources to find an appropriate solution with little intervention.
- Passionate about writing clear, maintainable code that will be used and modified by others, and able to use and modify other developers’ work rather than recreate it
- Must be willing to travel to NBCUniversal locations as needed.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 3+ years of recent experience with a broadcaster or broadcast industry solutions provider.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, comfortable communicating with technical and non-technical colleagues and executives
