    This posting is for two vacancies which will serve at a school location to be determined through the hiring processs.

    Job Summary
    Social services managers are responsible for case management to include family support, siblings at multiple schools, and wrap around services available and provided through the FNSBSD or other local agencies. Managers work with students to manage personal and psychological issues that affect their school performance, attendance, behavior and socialization while establishing a system for identification of families and children in need of social services and implementing activities to meet those needs. Through one-on-one, classroom, school-wide, district, or community collaboration, social services managers address issues relevant to the student population, such as school attendance, trauma related incidents, homelessness, hunger and bullying. Provides direct information and connections to outside support services or agencies helping students and their families deal with economic, emotional, or physical challenges. Facilitates communications with parents, teachers, administrators, and local social service agencies to provide a full view of the issues facing an individual student, group, or school. Managers may be assigned to regional school-based services or any of the following district wide specialty areas as needed: McKinney-Vento, Foster Care, Project Aware Grant, Special Education or School Transitions (between alternative learning programs, youth detention, residential treatment, long-term expulsion, etc.).

    Salary: $54,274 - $77,364 DOE
    Work Day: 8 hours
    Work Year: 10 months
    Bargaining Unit: Non Represented

    The following are required:
    • Master’s degree in social work, counseling services, child psychology, or human services.
    • Must have or be eligible to obtain within 60 days of employment an Alaska State Licensure, such as Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or an Alaska Type C Certificate with an endorsement in school counseling, school social work, or related area.
    • Must demonstrate knowledge/experience of the effects of trauma and poverty on children currently experiencing trauma.
    • Experience in child advocacy and parent outreach with school age children.
    • Adept at communicating with students and/or parents in crisis, making a variety of community social connections for students, parents, and teachers.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills.
    • Must have working knowledge of federal laws and rules regarding child welfare in public schools.
    • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
    • Ability to use a computer for correspondence, data tracking, and reporting.
    • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with school staff and families.
    • Knowledge of health, social services, legal, and other general/local services available in Fairbanks.
    • Strong understanding and sensitivity to diverse cultures and lifestyles.
    • Must hold a valid Alaska driver’s license, current insurance and vehicle registration.

    The following is preferred:
    • Four (4) to six (6) years of experience in social work or related field.
