Position Summary
Is this position exempt from overtime pay?
Yes
Provides services to those students in-class or virtual programs in need of intensive counseling/social work services as identified by the school team and their families. Provide intensive therapeutic and family intervention services to the identified school population. Works with school personnel to reduce barriers to learning. Provides resources to assist students as needed in traditional schools and Virtual Academy. Virtual experience may be required based on assignment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Conducts in-person or virtual individual therapy and/or group counseling on a regular basis; provides necessary counseling and other related services to students with disabilities according to their Individualized Education Programs.
2. Interviews student and family members to determine nature and degree of needs.
3. Coordinates and collaborates with community agencies to assist students when needed.
4. Interprets psychiatric and other treatments and assessments to family and individual students.
5. Plans and conducts professional development trainings and individual consultations, in person or virtually, for teachers in-classroom management, curriculum planning and instructional techniques, the handling of behavior and other problems, and issues related to special education, child abuse, sexual harassment, and crisis prevention and intervention.
6. Participates in crisis intervention services, including individual and school-wide prevention, intervention and post-vention activities, conducts threat determinations as needed.
7. Consults with school staff to enhance student’s school performance.
8. Attends and participates in school-based team conferences, Section 504 multidisciplinary meetings and IEP team meetings where appropriate and within required timelines; serves as a witness in special education mediations and hearings as requested.
9. Provides support and services to families experiencing personal and environmental variables, such as economic hardship (poverty), which interfere with student progress. May conduct home visits, if appropriate.
10. Completes required documentation within timelines, including case notes, IEP documentation, Medicaid billing.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education
Master’s degree in Social Work from a regionally accredited college or university.
Experience
Two (2) years post-Master’s experience providing clinical social work services in a clinical setting dealing with children/adolescents and their families.
- Experience in school-based settings preferred.
- If assigned to Virtual Academy, one (1) year of experience with virtual learning technology, remote instruction platforms, Learning Management Systems, and video conferencing tools is required.

- Ability to work effectively and engage diverse parents/ guardians with varied communication styles, levels of skill and experience to support their child’s education experience.
- Ability to employ a variety of teaching styles to respond to the needs of diverse learners.
- Job requires direct in-person or virtual provision of service, therefore punctual, regular and predictable attendance is essential.
- Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred.
Licenses/Certifications
Licensed Certified Social Worker – Clinical (LCSW-C) issued by Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners prior to appointment.
- Hold or be eligible for a Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) professional certificate as a School Social Worker.
- Hold or be eligible for a National Provider Identifier (NPI) issued by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES) and must be actively enrolled in Maryland Medicaid. Employee not holding NPI or Maryland Medicaid enrollment upon hire must apply for NPI within 10 days of employment and Maryland Medicaid immediately upon receipt of NPI. Employee must retain active NPI and Maryland Medicaid enrollment as a condition of employment.
