Job description
Rising for Justice (“RFJ”) invites applications for a social worker to fill a newly established position in the Social Work Division. The incumbent will work as part of an interdisciplinary team that supports District of Columbia residents who seek to have their criminal records sealed or who are respondents in civil protection order and/or anti-stalking order cases. We seek a dynamic, experienced LICSW with a passion for working with individuals who face barriers to economic mobility, and in turn, to positive health outcomes, because of their involvement in the justice system. Following a transition period, we expect the incumbent to help train and supervise MSW students as part of their field placements. This is a full-time position to begin immediately.

Created in 1969, RFJ, formerly known as D.C. Law Students in Court, is the oldest clinical legal education program in the District of Columbia. RFJ currently operates as a public interest legal services provider and clinical education program. The Social Work Division
The Social Work Division was established in 2017 to assist clients with legal cases achieve more holistic and sustainable results. The social work team has served as an important conduit in connecting clients with a range of services and other resources and simultaneously supporting clients through the stressful process of navigating the legal process. The social work team has also served a primary role in conducting client assessments to determine the areas of potential need and assisting the legal team in effectively working with clients.
Responsibilities
- Providing oversight and clinical supervision of social work services provided to clients in our expungement and civil protection order/anti-stalking programs;
- Conducting assessments, crisis intervention, and case management services;
- Training and supervising MSW students;
- Collaborating with other members of the social work and legal team who are assigned to provide services to clients in other program areas;
- Participating in community outreach and education events and “Know Your Rights” training sessions; and
- Collaborating with members of other community organizations.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will:
- Be licensed as an LICSW in the District of Columbia;
- Have three to five years of experience as a clinical social worker;
- Possess strong clinical skills in assessment, diagnosis and trauma-informed delivery of services;
- Be able to work effectively both independently and as a team member;
- Have exceptional written and oral communication skills; and
- Preferably have experience working with clients who have been involved in the criminal justice system.
