HII Unmanned Systems is seeking a seasoned and talented hands-on Software Engineer in Test to create and perform software verification and system validation to test, verify, and automate advanced software capabilities in the unmanned maritime products. The individual in this role will have an advanced knowledge of software testing principles including software test automation, test case analysis and preparation, software test platform and tools selection etc.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate the ability to be creative and innovative to assist in developing unique, differentiated solutions to complex problems in a continuous improvement environment.
- Execute software testing strategy, plan and approach of HII UxS software deliverables.
- Create, maintain, and document test plans, protocols and test cases.
- Mentor new hire and/or junior Software Engineer in test by hands-on coaching.
- Prepare software test plan and test cases to optimize the testing of UxS software modules.
- Investigate software testing platforms and tools, and deploy them in the testing environment.
- Implement automation test procedures and test cases per software and system requirements.
- Deploy simulation environments used to test and evaluate autonomy algorithms and autonomous systems with simulation and modeling team.
- Document software development activities, test plans, and test results.
- Effectively communicate findings, problems and solutions to functional and project teams.
- Coordinate with system, software, hardware and other engineering teams to support the best software quality in release.
- Participate in all phases of product development as needed such as reviewing requirements, design, usability, risk assessment and defects.
- Follow software development process and best practices.
What you will be doing...
Designs, develops, documents, tests and debugs applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions. Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software. Determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions; designs and develops compilers and assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems. Ensures software standards are met.
What we are looking for...
5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.
- BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics Engineering, or other related engineering majors.
- 8+ years of software testing or development experience to solve complex engineering challenges.
- 5+ years hands-on experience in conducting software testing of embedded systems, and/or autonomous systems.
- Experience with programming, system design and algorithm design.
- Experience with real-time system development of Linux, Unix, VxWorks and/or a RTOS.
- Excellent debugging experience on Linux to debug hard-to-reproduce whole-system problems.
- Proficient in Pearl, Python or other automated testing languages.
- Ability to successfully function in a team with cross-functional team member and multi-tasking.
- Excellent problem solving, planning and decision-making skills.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
