The Coordinator of Instructional Design and Professional Learning is responsible for supporting the faculty in all aspects of course creation and implementation. The Coordinator provides course design support to faculty members to assist them in creating effective and engaging learning environments, both online and face-to-face, that are informed by course and program learning outcomes. This position will consult with faculty from diverse disciplines to identify course outcomes and goals, applicable evidence-based instructional strategies and techniques to integrate innovative online and technology-enhanced course components to enhance learning across different delivery modes. The Coordinator will also provide pedagogical training to the faculty through workshops, webinars, video tutorials, and other appropriate strategies regarding topics related to online teaching, the learning management system, course design, and integration of instructional technology. This position will work closely with the Director of Extended Instruction to develop and implement online course formats that provide students with the best possible learning platform.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide instructional design support to faculty through consultation with individuals and collaborative course design teams.
- Research technology and techniques to improve in-person and online instruction.
- Assist faculty in the development of course materials for delivery of face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses.
- Assist faculty with conversion of face-to-face courses to hybrid and online formats.
- Assist faculty with the development and implementation of robust assessment methods, particularly for online courses.
- Collaborate with other college personnel to identify and develop appropriate topics for professional learning opportunities for faculty and staff.
- Assist in the development, delivery, and facilitation of professional development workshops and symposia, particularly with regard to course design, online teaching, and technology-enhanced instruction.
- Review online coursed to ensure quality standards are implemented consistently across disciplines.
- Recommend improvements in course design to faculty.
- Report concerns about the quality of online course design to the appropriate dean or VP of Academic Affairs.
- Assist deans in the development or delivery of personnel improvement plans related to online course delivery or course design.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in education, curriculum development, distance education, or a related field
- Instructional Design Certificate or willingness to obtain such a certificate within one year of hire
- Experience working with faculty across disciplines
- Experience designing college level courses
- Other job related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements, upon approval of the qualifications review committee.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree from an accredited college or university
- Instructional Design Certificate from an accredited college or university
- Experience designing learning conditions conducive to learning for FTIC students and underrepresented student groups
- Experience providing instructional design support using a learning management system such as Moodle
- Experience providing, developing, and/or offering professional development to educators
- Experience providing instructional design support across multiple delivery modalities (i.e., face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses)
- Experience collaborating with a variety of academic and administrative offices within a college/university
