Job Title: Environmental Health & Safety Specialist

Reports to: Director, Environmental Health & Safety

GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PURPOSE:

This position is responsible for applying knowledge of environmental health and safety practices and standards to develop programs and processes that support the execution of Loram’s strategies, and to ensure compliance with regulatory and Loram standards and drive continuous improvement of EHS performance and results.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Safety and Environmental Management

  • Serve as a functional EHS expert and support for multiple business units.
  • Develop and lead cross functional continuous improvement initiatives and assist in the development of training programs.
  • Develop and integrate processes into daily operations to ensure long term success of a continuously improving safety culture.
  • Recommend control measures for the design and use of maintenance machines and facility equipment to minimize risk.
  • At times, lead incident and injury investigations and assist with developing action plans.
  • Develop and implement systems, policies and procedures in both the safety and environmental space consistent with accepted industry principles and practices and recommend technical changes as needed.
  • Drive consistent messaging and campaigns to connect with a decentralized and mobile workforce.

Safety and Environmental Compliance

  • Interpret new and existing regulations and drive actions to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies and Loram requirements.
  • Perform proactive risk assessments targeting reduction of incidents, injuries and damage.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of the Safety and Environment Management System and support unit managers to ensure consistency throughout the
  • Conduct periodic audits and assessments of facilities, equipment, and operating practices.
  • Compile, analyze and interpret statistical data related to exposure factors and monitoring data for trends.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: BS degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, or Industrial Hygiene

Experience: 3+ years of related safety experience. Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and environmental regulation knowledge and experience.

Other Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Attention to detail, ability to communicate at all levels of the organization,
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel),
  • Ability to work with others through complex situations
  • Excellent decision-making skills in a fast-paced environment

Licenses/Certifications: Obtain and Maintain railroad safety training and certifications

Or 7+ years’ experience combining knowledge of Occupational Safety, EHS, Industrial Hygiene, OSHA regulations, ISO 45001/OHSAS 18001, or FRA safety regulations in lieu of education.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Master’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, or Industrial Hygiene

Experience: 3+ years of related safety experience with application of OSHA and FRA regulations, application of ISO 45001 or OHSAS 18001 management systems, and environmental regulation knowledge and experience.

Licenses/Certifications: Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
