As the Import/Export Specialist you are responsible for the handling of international shipments to our subsidiaries, customers, and vendors. In this role you will build working relationships with many stakeholders to obtain information to ensure correct measures are in place; instruct the sales department on costs and shipment methodologies; work with warehouse personnel to ensure shipment readiness; issue correct documentation as instructed; maintain all export files ensuring they are in accordance with procedures; as well as building working relationships with overseas agents to facilitate deliveries; and manage special projects by performing the following duties.
**PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A REMOTE POSITION**
Additional responsibilities include:
- Schedule customer shipments/orders.
- Book transportation utilizing most efficient methods to satisfy the company and customers’ needs.
- Arrange government agency (NOAA) cargo inspections and be a liaison with inspectors.
- Prepare all forms of documentation; BOL’s, Invoices, packing lists, certificates, etc. as necessary.
- Maintain data in the operations system, or other locations.
- Maintain shipment files.
- Arrange sample or small parcel shipments via courier services for other departments.
- Perform general office administration, ie order shipping supplies, office supplies, etc.
- 3+ years of experience with Air and Ocean export transportation
- Experience with booking LCL, FCL and Airfreight shipments
- Experience with domestic shipping methods
- Experience and knowledge in producing export transportation and commercial documentation
- Knowledge of US Customs Regulations and AES
- Knowledge of Incoterms 2010
- Familiarity with foreign country import processes and regulations
- Familiarity with NOAA and USDA health certificates, or other Government agencies
- Ability to work under pressure while prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines
- Excellent problem solving skills
- Organized and detail oriented
- Strong communication skills
- Fast learner willing to take on new challenges
- Ability to become the subject matter expert for international transportation
- Knowledge of MS Office applications, Excel, Word, and Outlook
- High School or GED required
