We are looking for a talented and highly motivated Chemical Engineer to join our growing Chemical Process Development (CPD) group. The ideal candidate should have demonstrated hands-on experience carrying out laboratory experiments. This role will report to a senior principal engineer/scientist and will be a key member of a multidisciplinary team. The team supports the CPD mission in the development of green, safe, and cost effective batch and continuous chemical processes to produce active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) for clinical and commercial purposes.

What You’ll Do

• Perform equipment setup, conduct experiments, perform data analysis, write reports and procedures
• Participate in team discussions on setting experimental objectives and prepare experimental designs and plans
• Design well thought out chemical experiments, perform them in the laboratory, analyze and interpret data generated to develop a scalable process. In addition, mentor junior scientists and build external collaborations to design experiments and interpret data to develop scalable processes
• Learn, evaluate and identify new technologies relevant to CPD activities
• Support the transfer of process technology to external development and manufacturing organizations (CDMOs)
• Manage key equipment, instrumentation, and their regular maintenance and repair

10% domestic and international travel required.

Qualifications

Sr Engineer III requirements:

BS in Chemical Engineering and 9-11 years of industry experience. Alternatively, an MS degree (that includes completion of a research thesis) in chemical engineering and 7-9 years of industry experience or a Ph.D. in chemical engineering and 4-6 years of industry experience

Principal Engineer requirements:

BS in Chemical Engineering and 12-15 years of industry experience. Alternatively, an MS degree (that includes completion of a research thesis) in chemical engineering and 10-13 years of industry experience or a Ph.D. in chemical engineering and 7-10 years of industry experience.

Senior Engineer III Required Skills

• Experience in chemical engineering or relevant unit operations
• Hands on experience in laboratory chemical synthesis and separation processes
• Familiar with analytical instrumentations for tracking process performance. Familiarity with process modeling or statistical analysis software, on-line or in-situ process analytical technology and process automation, operating a tubular or stirred-tank reactors in continuous mode
• Familiar with computerized data processing software
• Experience collecting and analyzing data rich experiments acquired from use of laboratory reactors equipped with data acquisition and control features
• Strong background in reaction engineering, mass and heat transfer, thermodynamics, and chemical synthesis or separation unit operations
• Experience with novel manufacturing technologies
• Experience reviewing technical and cGMP-related documents including batch records, process deviations, and process development reports
• Experience working with contract manufacturing facilities and managing technical transfers
• Proven scientific track record through presentations at scientific conferences

Principal Engineer Required Experience

• In addition to Senior Engineer III required skills:
• Experience mentoring and coaching junior engineers and scientists in developing chemical synthesis or separation processes
• Experience as a technical development lead on cross-functional teams to progress assets from research and development phases into manufacturing and commercial phase
• Experience contributing to regulatory filings on late phase assets, authoring validation plans, reports and pier reviewed manuscripts
• Experience with complete technical responsibility for projects and initiatives within a department and with external partners
