JOB SUMMARY

This role is to assist in providing staff support in an Inpatient and/or Outpatient environment.

Inpatient: This role may provide basic care for patients under the direction of a Registered Nurse on our inpatient units and facilitate communication between the patient, their family, and the patient’s care team via video conference applications or phone.

Outpatient: This role may help answer phones, schedule appointments, and gather general information to register patients.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions

• Demonstrates a commitment to the mission of Swedish Hospital and demonstrates a service orientation and adheres to all responsibilities and standards of the Hospital.

Inpatient Duties:

• Responds to the immediate needs of the patient by answering patient call lights promptly and courteously
• As directed, by RN, makes hourly or more frequent rounds on patients for safety, comfort, and meeting patients' needs/requests
• Positions, lifts, transfers, and ambulates patients as directed by the RN; use of Safe Patient Handling equipment
• Assist with setting up meals for patients and ordering meals
• Keeps patient rooms tidy, refreshes patient’s linen as need, removes unnecessary equipment and linen
• Assists patient with simple hygiene/comfort measures such as washing hands/face and oral care
• As directed by the RN, transports patient to other departments or during discharge
• Handles infectious waste and linen according to established hospital procedure
• Adheres to proper infection control standards and hand washing techniques to avoid cross contamination
• Cleans and disinfects unit specific equipment
• Answers phones and/or cover/assist Unit Assistant as needed during the shift
• Acts as a "Runner" to other departments, when needed to obtain necessary items for patient care

Outpatient Duties:

• Receives and answers incoming calls related to general questions
• Rooms patients, weighs patient, helps patient change clothing when necessary
• Schedules appointments
• Transports patient when necessary
• Acts as a ‘Runner’ to other departments
• Stocks supplies in rooms
• Screens patients making sure that they are at the right location

QUALIFICATION/BASIC JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION: Must be 17 years old. High School Diploma or GED preferred or equivalent work experience

INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CONTACTS

• Direct contact or phone contact with patients and medical staff.

ENVIRONMENT.

• Wear an N95 mask / PAPR and other PPE
• Walking, bending, stooping, long periods of stationary standing, pushing, pulling, lifting
• Must be able to assist with occasional heavy lifting of 100+ pounds.
