Job Responsibilities

1. Manages the operation of the District 9 Supply Center.
  • Receives and distributes materials, supplies and equipment at the District 9 headquarters for all bureaus.
  • Processes and maintains procurement documentation of equipment and commodities . Operates a forklift to load and unload materials and equipment.
  • Organizes the storeroom and office areas to ensure parts and supplies are easily assessable. Communicates with district Operations staff via email daily.

2. Maintains and reconciles supply and equipment inventory records utilizing Asset Management Program (AMP).
  • Performs annual inventory of all stocked items and assists with the annual equipment inventory.
  • Assists with the processing and inventory of new and disposed equipment.

3. Prepares estimates of stock needs and makes recommendations for the procurement of parts and supplies.

4. Operates CDL licensed heavy trucks and equipment, including forklifts, within the district and to/from vendors.

5. Assists with entry and review of Central Management Services Work Orders in the AMP.

6. Maintains the district Bureau of Operations key registry which includes tracking all Operations personnel key assignments and maintaining spare keys for facilities and vehicles.

7. Coordinates the annual fire extinguisher service.

8. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the enumerated above.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


Minimum Qualifications

1. Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of four (4) years of high school.
2. Requires two (2) years of experience in the keeping of stores and stores records.

Preferred Qualifications
1. Prefers working knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft Office.
2. Prefers experience with computerized inventory systems.
3. Prefers working knowledge of procurement procedures for different types of purchases.
4. Prefers the ability to follow established record-keeping policies and procedures.

Employment Conditions

1. Requires the successful completion of a background investigation.
2. Requires valid Class B CDL driver's license without airbrake restrictions.
3. Requires the ability to operate a forklift.
4. Requires the ability to perform arduous labor.


Position Marketing Statement

The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking to hire a Storekeeper II. The successful candidate will perform large scale storekeeping work in the District 9 Supply Center involving receipt, storage, distribution and inventory of a large and varied stock of materials, supplies and equipment.
