The City of Surprise Economic Development Department is in pursuit of a new team member with the ability to troubleshoot, navigate and resolve key infrastructure issues that will accelerate priority projects in the short-term - and modernize our community for the long term! Just as the City of Surprise is hitting its stride with new economic growth opportunities, our increasing need for key infrastructure, including broadband, water, power, transportation, and even parking, is at a crossroads.

The new Economic Development Strategic Planning & Growth Manager primarily serves as a liaison between our team and: (1) the city’s own technical services departments (i.e., Water Resources Management, Public Works, Engineering, etc.), (2) the private sector development community, and (3) utility providers. While identifying opportunities to solve problems, make policy recommendations, identify resources, and streamline processes for Economic Development projects, this position also champions long-term infrastructure planning and growth opportunities that support the city’s future economic interests.


SUMMARY
Under the general direction of the Economic Development Director, directs, plans, implements, and evaluates strategic development activities within the City. Coordinates interdepartmental projects, and manages special ongoing, comprehensive, Citywide projects related to strategic initiatives, and civic innovation smart growth procedures, operational efficiency, and innovation programs, projects, and initiatives. Provides responsible and complex staff assistance to the City Manager.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university; and five (5) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Additional education cannot be substituted for experience. A Master’s degree in a related field is desirable.
