Introduction



The City of Tucson Department of Transportation, Streets & Traffic Maintenance Division is seeking hardworking, motivated individuals with a strong work ethic to maintain and repair streets, alleyways, sidewalks, shoulders, curbs, drainage ways and rights-of-ways remove debris, weeds and brush and provide emergency services. This includes manual labor.

General Description

Maintains and repairs rights of way, alleyways, sidewalks, shoulders, curbs, and drainage ways. Removes debris, weeds, and brush and provides emergency service.

Essential Functions

Maintains and repairs streets, alleys, sidewalks, shoulders, curbs, drainage ways, and rights-of-ways by removing debris, preparing surfaces, spreading asphalt, mixing and pouring of concrete, crack sealing, cutting and pruning trees and vegetation, and cleaning of tools and equipment.

Provides emergency service by responding to calls for service which may include conducting storm post clean up, servicing bridges for de-icing, and setting-up and taking down signs and barricades. Standby may be required.

Repairs and maintains tools and equipment, repairs broken irrigation lines, maintains inventory of City issued equipment, repairing broken irrigation lines, working in and around traffic.

Operates small tools, equipment and pick-up trucks.

Assists in setting priorities for work and using good judgment to solve unusual problems.

Work may include weekend and holidays.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education Level & Type: High School Diploma or G.E.D.

Minimum Experience Qualifications: Under 1 year maintaining and repairing right-of-way, sidewalks, and drainage ways

Valid and Unrestricted Class D - Driver's License

Selection Plan

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated on the education and work experience in their employment profile and the responses to their supplemental questions. The highest scoring applicants will then be invited to participate in an oral board interview.

Oral Board Interviews will be held: Thursday, February 23, 2023

Upon completion of all processes, the highest scoring applicants will be placed on the Civil Service Employment List. An applicant's ranking on the Civil Service list will be based on their final score which will be calculated as:

§ 10% of your rating for Education and Work Experience
§ 90% of your rating for the Oral Board Interview
