Job Summary


The Manager of Student Life and Leadership at Mesa Community College plans, manages, and oversees a comprehensive student leadership program, multicultural programming, student government, student activities and special events for the college at our two campus locations. Works with a diverse population of administrators, faculty, staff, students, and the public.


Essential Functions


30% - Develops, plans, manages, and oversees full range of student events, activities, and services ensuring that they promote the educational mission of Mesa Community College and reflect institutional goals and priorities, especially those related to equity, inclusion, and belonging; reviews best practices regarding campus activities; makes recommendations to the Vice President and Dean of Student Development concerning the scope of programs and activities sponsored by the Office of Student Life & Leadership; coordinates and implements Thunderbird Kick-off new student welcome event, facilitates cultural programs, service projects, lectures and seminars; develops and provides a variety of student services and programs to include transportation, insurance, referrals, blood drives, etc.; oversees production of student resources, manuals and handbooks (Clubs and Organizations Manual, Housing/Apartment Guide, etc.); Prepares promotional materials; ensures accessibility for all students involved in events, conferences and meetings.

30% - Plans, designs, directs and administers a full range of student leadership activities including training programs, student leadership retreats, conferences and workshops; develops and implements leadership development programs for students on volunteerism, student governance and student organizations; coordinates and participates in the LeaderShape Institute and Student Public Policy forums; serves as a representative, advisor, and coordinator for internal and external stakeholders such as the Associated Students of MCC and various student clubs, ensuring that student initiatives incorporate service learning (the combining of community service with classroom instruction, focusing on critical thinking, value clarification and social responsibility), diversity, equity and social justice approaches.

25% - Plans, develops, manages, and administers department budget; advises student organizations on event planning, fiscal responsibility, travel and student policies; monitors operational compliance with policies and regulations; provides guidelines for initiation of college clubs/organizations/associations; Oversees reports and financial statements generated by student organizations; reviews and approves expenditures from student leadership accounts; facilitates conflict resolution and crisis intervention(s) for student organizations.

15% - Plans, organizes, assigns, supervises, reviews, trains, and evaluates the work of staff; administers department budget; assists in the maintenance of the student activities events calendar and the MCC Student Life & Leadership website; assists other departments in research for campus including surveys, focus groups, retreats, etc.; develops and maintains contacts in the community and with local businesses and industry; serves as resource liaison and advisor on student leadership issues and is a member of campus and district committees; participates as a team member in numerous teams and task forces; performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications


Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in education, sociology, business administration, justice studies, cultural studies, non-profit management, any humanities or social sciences field or related field and five years of progressively responsible student services or related experience that includes such things as administration of policies and procedures, program oversight and two years of supervisory experience.

OR

Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and seven years of progressively responsible student services or related experience that includes such things as administration of policies and procedures, program oversight and two years of supervisory experience.

OR

High School Diploma/GED and nine years of progressively responsible student services or related experience that includes such things as administration of policies and procedures, program oversight and two years of supervisory experience.

Desired Qualifications


A. Two (2) years experience managing/supervising staff within a college or university

B. Experience coordinating inclusive and accessible programs and services that have a demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion. and social justice

C. Experience developing and monitoring budgets

D. Experience working in student affairs/student services in a community college setting

E. Experience that demonstrates knowledge of leadership development, advising student clubs and organizations, advising student government

F. Master’s Degree in education, justice studies, cultural studies, non-profit management, any humanities or social sciences field or any related field

G. Experience working with program evaluation and outcome assessment, including student learning outcomes
