Kamehameha Schools Kapalama Campus High School is looking for two (2) Study Hall Supervisors. This position will support students in their academic success and we are looking for individuals with experience tutoring in core subject areas.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00am - 3:45pm. This will be a temporary, full-time position for the 22-23 SY.
Job Summary
Supervises students assigned to study hall by monitoring assignments and projects and coaches students to use effective study methods and techniques. Maintains accurate attendance records for all students assigned to study hall. Identifies concerns/reasons for referral to a counselor or administrator; consults with teachers and parents and provides input to determine help needed for students. Counsels students to strengthen study skill strategies and self-discipline to meet their academic, behavior and conduct responsibilities Regularly prepares, distributes, collects and reviews student evaluations and progress reports for distribution to teachers, parents, and school administration. Maintains information in computer databases.
Essential Responsibilities
- As an integral part of the instructional team, supervises students assigned to study hall for academic probation, during their unscheduled periods or for students requiring a quiet study area by monitoring class and homework assignments and projects, by coaching and counseling students to use proper study methods and techniques, and referring students to appropriate resources for additional assistance. Identifies concerns/reasons for referral to a counselor or administrator; consults with teachers and parents and provides input to determine help needed for students. May be required to supervise study hall and/or detention during weekends as needed.
- Works with students to develop their organization of academic work, work habits and effective time management. Provides study hall instructions and tutorial assistance. Counsels students to strengthen study skill strategies and self-discipline to meet their academic responsibilities or realize there are consequences for not following program expectations. Assesses/evaluates students' progress and attitude when assigned to academic probation study hall to determine the best approach to reduce recidivism and for assisting each of them.
- Maintains accurate attendance records for all students assigned to study hall and refers unexcused students to supervisor for follow-up actions.
- Prepares, distributes, collects and reviews student evaluations and other written progress reports on a regular basis for distribution to classroom teachers, parents, and school administration. Prepares and processes student detention letters and maintains information in computer database. Provides office support to respond to student, parent and teacher inquiries.
- Assists by proctoring test when students need to make-up missed examinations. May proctor advanced placement exams.
- Supervises students in detention and during various student assemblies/events such as Song Contest, Song Contest rehearsals, founder's Day rehearsals, chapel, graduation rehearsals, etc. and coaches their behavior/conduct to maintain order, tone and appropriate atmosphere. May also provide supervision before and after school at transportation pick-up and drop-off sites.
Position Requirements
Minimum Qualifications - A combination of education and experience may be substituted for the requirements listed.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 3 years experience to include supervision and management of children's behavior.
- Ability and proven experience in working with students.
- Good working knowledge of study skills methods and techniques.
- Strong leadership skills essential to motivate and guide students.
- Strong verbal skills necessary to communicate study skills methods and techniques, study skills deficiencies and attitude problems.
- Classroom management skills necessary to maintain general behavior to prevent behavior problems..
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous teaching experience.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently sits, perform desk-based computer tasks and grasp light or fine manipulation, talk or hear.
- Occasionally stand and/or walk, write by hand, and lift and/or carry, push and/or pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
- Rarely twist, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach or work above shoulder, or grasp forcefully.
Working Conditions
- This position may involve traveling to various locations, including neighbor islands to conduct business.
- Work is conducted in an office/school environment and may require work to be conducted in non-standard workplaces.
- Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday at normal business hours but evening and weekend hours are often required to meet goals and objectives.
