Facilities Assistant
Position:
We’re looking for a Facilities Assistant to help camp run smoothly behind the scenes. The Facilities Assistant performs daily tasks that include making repairs around camp, taking out trash, managing camp laundry, and other tasks that will pop up whenever something goes awry.
This is a residential position. Room and board are provided.
Facilities Assistant Skills:
An introductory knowledge or interest in the following are needed: Light Carpentry, Plumbing & Electrical, Landscaping, Pool Care, and Custodial.
Facilities Assistant Responsibilities:
- Manage camp laundry and maintain the laundry facility in a clean manner. Responsible for cabin sign in/sign out accountability of laundry. Wash laundry in laundry bags to keep track of camper ownership. Run through/share lost and found each week to return items.
- Facilities checks each morning - check bathroom for toilet paper, clogs, cleanliness, etc.
- Taking out trash
- Clean bathrooms
- Husbandry - keeping up with food/water needs for out chickens and quails
- Grounds upkeep - trash, safety hazards
- Filling up water cooler for day camp
- Emptying field outhouse
Facilities Assistant Requirements:
- At least 18 years of age at time of employment
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Pass a CORI background check.
- Attend staff training week.
- Current first Aid/CPR certification preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple situations effectively.
- Must be able comply with all state, federal and Camp standards.
- Must be able to lift and carry at least 30 lbs. as well as be capable of standing for long periods of time and adjusting from sitting to standing with ease.
A typical day as the Facilities Assistant (not that there’s a typical day at camp…)
- Wake up and grab breakfast with the team. Check in with the Head of Facilities to get assignments for the day
- Hop in the golf cart and do a quick trip around camp to empty the garbage cans.
- Check and fill Tractor and UTV fuel as necessary.
- Get started on daily assignments.
- It’s time for lunch! Head up to Buchanan to grab a plate of food with campers and staff.
- After lunch, it’s time for some fun in the sun...grab the weed wacker and head over to the fields to keep them looking great.
- Uh oh, the Head of Facilities lets you know that a window was broken. Head on over to pull out the screen to get replaced.
- You’re done with the weed wacking, so you check back on the “to do” list today.
- Before you know it, it’s dinner time and the work day is over! Feel free to join in on camp activities during Evening Program, or take some time for yourself before bed!
