Health Staff

Employment Dates: June 13 to July 28 (7 weeks)
Compensation and Benefits:

  • $4,900-$6,300 (commensurate with qualifications and experience)
  • Room and board (3 meals/day) on campus
  • Daily time off and one day off per week

Number of Positions Available: 4 (1 Lead Nurse and 3 Assistants)
Work Schedule: Full-time on a shift rotation (including nights and weekends). On a rotating basis, Health Staff are expected to be on-call 24/7 in case of emergencies throughout the duration of the program. Health Staff should expect more responsibilities during participants’ free time and meals.
Job Description: Under the direct supervision of our year-round Assistant Director of
Residential Life (A-DRL), Health Staff are responsible for managing the overall health and wellness of all YYGS Participants and staff during the program. Members of the
Health Staff triage illnesses and injuries of YYGS participants and staff, maintain accurate health records, and manage the YYGS Health Office. They encourage healthy habits and ensure the wellbeing of all individuals in the YYGS community. Due to the nature of this program, Health Staff may also be asked to perform other duties as assigned by the A-DRL.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Managing the YYGS Health Office during open hours (8am-11pm).
  • Performing medical tasks such as recording temperature, blood pressure, respiratory rate, pulse, and food and fluid intake and output, as necessary.
  • Triaging illnesses and injuries as they arise. This may include escorting patients to Yale Health and/or Yale New Haven Hospital.
  • Following assigned policies, procedures, and restraints, and maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
  • Support students with medication and questions.
  • Reporting any serious conditions and status of patient care to the A-DRL and YYGS Leadership Team.

Skills and Experience
Required:

  • Successful completion of background check.
  • RN, LPN, or current student pursuing a degree in the medical field.
  • Eager to live on campus and have a passion for working with young students from all different backgrounds, ages 16 – 18.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Available for occasional coordination meetings (virtual) in Spring 2023 and ability to arrive on June 13 and live on campus working full-time from June

13 (12:30pm) — July 28 (6pm), 2023.

Preferred:

  • Experience working with the teenage population in an emergency or primary care setting.
  • Experience working on a team and a demonstrated ability to work well with colleagues.

Job Type: Temporary

Pay: $4,900.00 - $6,300.00 per month

  • New Haven, CT: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)
