Statement of Purpose:
Coordinates and administers the day-to-day tasks of the summer sailing program operations featuring youth sailing, recreational sports, adult sailing, regattas and Summer Camp. Skillfully apply the Club Rules and ensure safety for all sailors and instructors. Works collaboratively with the Sailing Director and coaching staff for daytime sailing instruction for campers. The Sailing Counselor will assist the Sailing Director in providing great leadership and excellent services to Members of Key Biscayne Yacht Club.
Primary Duties:
- Diligent planning to ensure the safety and engagement of all sailors in their assigned groups.
- Assists with daily lesson plans and activities for campers based on abilities and ages and coordinates with the participants and parents.
- Follows program lesson plans and implementation plans in a developmentally appropriate manner, meeting the individual physical, social, emotional, and intellectual needs of all campers.
- Serves as a positive role model, demonstrates professional behavior, and understands positive youth development approaches.
- Communicates appropriately with parents and attends designated parent/family events. Maintains close communication with Marina & Facilities Director to ensure smooth program operations.
- Assists with daily check-in/out of youth program sailors.
- Responsible for proper billing in all programs.
- Oversees communication and marketing of the program.
- Take an active role in the water sports program including the rental of club owned equipment.
- Track the maintenance and care of Club powerboats, sailboats and club equipment each week.
- Adheres to all required policies of KBYC and safety guidelines.

Education and Certificates:
· High school graduate, and/or appropriate combination of training and experience
Experience:
· A minimum of 1 year of experience working as a Sailing Instructor in a private club environment preferred

· Ability to work long hours with a strong focus on operational excellence.
· Ability to understand the flow of service and handle multiple tasks effectively is preferred.
· Ability to handle telephone calls, written and electronic correspondence proficiently.
· Proficient in using Website editing, Canva, Publisher etc.
· Strong computer skills including MS Office, PayPal, Google Docs, and point of sales systems.
· Basic knowledge of use and care of tools and machinery.
· Knowledge of boats and line handling.
Communication Skills
· Ability to effectively communicate and use varying approaches with diverse personalities.
· Ability to communicate clearly with peers and superiors.
· Well versed in in website
Language Skills
· Very good verbal and written communication skills in English.
· Verbal and written communication skills in Spanish is preferred.
Other:
· Ability to work in an outdoor environment in a hot climate.
· Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects up to 30 lbs or more frequently.
· Requires writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.
· Ability to stand and/or walk long distances for an extended period of time, or for an entire work shift.
· Ability to perform mainly physical functions including walking about 6-8 miles a day.
· Available to work late nights, weekends, holidays, and long hours as necessary.
