Supervisor - Bronson Mothers Milk Bank
The Mother’s Milk Bank Supervisor serves as the Executive Director under HMBANA (Human Milk Banking Association of North America) and will maintain oversight of milk bank operations including scheduling, staff training & development, food safety & sanitation, and physical safety in the day-to-day operation of the milk bank. The person in this role will partner with BMMB team to optimize business performance. Under the leadership of the Supervisor, the milk bank team is expected to deliver high quality, safe, and nutritionally accurate products, in a timely manner, with the highest possible level of customer service, and within given budget parameters.
It is expected that the Mother’s Milk Bank Supervisor maintain working knowledge of all job functions within the Bronson Mothers Milk Bank and serves to complete job duties in the absence of team members, in the interest of maintaining uninterrupted service. A regular presence within the department and consistent communication with all employees is to be maintained.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for leading and supporting the Bronson Mothers Milk Bank team.
Required Qualifications
  • Strong customer service skills required for internal and external relationship management
  • Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining SOPs, HAACP policies and other best practices
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex verbal and written directions
  • Must be able to read (through appropriate means of translation, if required) and understand English
  • Basic math skills required for essential job duties
  • Experience with relevant computer systems, i.e., Microsoft Office Suite, API, Workday, etc.
  • Serve Safe Certification or other comparable and relevant third-party food safety certification is required

BMMB Supervisor collaborates with BMMB team to ensure the following, with the understanding that many of the responsibilities listed below are shared with other members of the BMMB and not the exclusive responsibility of the individual in the BMMB Supervisor role
Essential Skills & Responsibilities:
Food Safety & Sanitation
  • Ensure donated breast milk is prepared in proper amounts, at proper times, according to standardized practice guidelines, and provided at proper temperatures to designated recipients.
  • Maintain standards of food preparation and service, sanitation, safety, and security under Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) conventions, Bronson’s Environment of Care (EOC) standards, and Bronson’s Standards of Operating Procedures (SOP).
Personnel Management
  • Provides continuous positive leadership for team
  • Screen, interview and make recommendations for hiring
  • Schedule ensures consistent and continuous operations
  • Staff are properly trained for their position
  • Maintain environment of empowerment and accountability
  • Staff meetings held regularly to review upcoming events, policy changes, concerns, and comments
  • Identify and support on-going professional development for BMMB Team
  • BMMB Supervisor will conducts annual performance appraisals of Team and ensures all MWR are completed
Quality and Cost Control
  • Uphold donor screening criteria and reviews relevant information to ensure safety and quality
  • Continually evaluates business performance and industry guidelines to identify opportunities and risks
  • Maintain compliance with standards, policies, and procedures set forth by regulatory agencies
  • Execute action plans developed for physical safety audits, as required, to maintain compliance to the Standard Operating Procedures and regulatory agencies
  • Works closely with System Manager of Clinical Nutrition in identifying ways to improve performance
  • Ensure timely and accurate inventory, ordering, production, and distribution functions
  • Invoices – checking for accuracy, entering information on spreadsheets, coding, tracking credits/discounts and shipping charges, preparing returns and obtaining credit memos.
Professional Development
  • Maintain relevant credentials and continuing education requirements
  • Partner with BMMB Team to develops and implement individualized plan for professional growth including participation in professional organizations and activities, workshops, seminars, etc.
  • Participation in relevant work groups to maintain and improve operations and services

  • Involves regularly lifting of bulky or moderately heavy weights (i.e., up to 75 pounds) and occasionally assisting with heavier tasks or expending the equivalent effort in pushing, pulling, or otherwise handling material, equipment, and other objects
  • Uses correct body positioning, proper body mechanics to avoid injury, utilizes safe work practices (e.g. pushing vs. pulling, patient transfer/lifting devices etc.) and uses personal protective equipment when necessary – instructs staff of the same
