Role Summary
This Manufacturing Engineer position will be working for LM Manufacturing, a part of a new start-up Joint Venture Seating JIT Assembly plant located in the Metro Detroit area. Under the direction of the Engineering Manager, develops and procures cost effective manufacturing equipment and processes/methods to achieve optimum line balance and throughput. Ensures manufacturing equipment processes are in accordance with Ergonomic practices, meets product specifications and achieves quality standards.
Under the direction of the Quality Manager, the Supplier Quality Engineer will participate as part of a cross-functional program team, representing the disciplines of supplier quality. Collaborate with suppliers and provide support to satisfy customer requirements related to Advance Product Quality Planning and PPAP for new programs. Supervise Quality Engineers.
Key Responsibilities
Responsible for the daily supervision of Supplier Quality Engineers.
Manage Quality Program deliverables as they relate to overall program requirements and timing.
Administers Supplier AQP process and conducts component PPAP’s, Run@Rates and Process Sign-Off’s.
Requests, gathers, reviews and creates summary reports for annual OEM flammability compliance reporting.
Maintains and distributes supply base AQP/PPAP tracking reports to program team and divisions.
Manage supplier tool moves, manufacturing site re-locations including most deliverables that are required for OEM customer approvals (part bank builds, logistics timing for move of tools and the final PPAP approvals)
Manage the Supplier Development Quality activity for OEM programs – Chrysler, General Motors and Ford (Pre-Launch, Advanced Product Quality Planning, and Production release programs)
Provide assistance to Quality Engineers with regard to AQP and PPAP methodology execution.
Conduct Potential Supplier Reviews, tracks suppliers progress to meet LM Manufacturing expectations, process supplier’s approval status with team members from Purchasing and Program Management.
Participates as Quality representative for the bid-recap process and approves as required through Agile.
Supports Supply Base ISO 9001:2015, IATF 16949 certifications status tracking and maintenance.
Consolidates monthly supplier performance from all Seating Plants. Maintain monthly charting for Management Review Meetings.
Provides communications to LM Manufacturing supply base regarding industry requirements (Heat Treat, Forever Requirements, SREA, PSO and Flammability)
Provides SOP training for new Seating employees on a monthly basis.
Authors, reviews/updates and maintains SOP’s, Work Instructions and Forms to support the Novi certification process.
Supports Internal / External Audit efforts regarding ISO 9001:2015, IATF 16949 Certification for remote site location (Group Office).
Supports the requirements as detailed in Standard Operating Procedure 8000 (Quality Management System).
Ensure employees work in the manner consistent with the organizations established objectives and targets utilizing protective equipment, devices, measures, and procedures as promulgated by state and federal regulations. Establish clear goals for workplace health and safety. Complete safety talks, safety meetings, and required training occur, as defined.
Displays a positive attitude towards safety, works safely and follows all the Company's safety policies and procedures./
Complies with all Health, Safety and Environmental standards in accordance with company policies, the Occupational Health & Safety Act. and the Michigan Occupational Health & Safety Act.
Ensures all employees and visitors have a safe environment in that safety and housekeeping standards are maintained; and all hazards, unsafe actions, or unsafe conditions have been identified, corrected, and/or eliminated.
Responds to and investigates all reports of injuries, accidents, illnesses, near misses and property damage immediately.
Takes an active part in the division’s safety program by performing regular workplace inspections, effectively investigates accidents/incidents promptly, and assists in meeting or exceeding the division’s safety goals.
Key Qualifications/Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree (or bachelor’s equivalency) in Engineering or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience in an automotive manufacturing environment.
10 years preferred of diversified quality related experience with a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory/managerial capacity.
Exceptional problem-solving skills, viable concept development, and proficiency with statistical methods.
Membership and professional certification through the American Society of Quality (ASQ).
Knowledge of government and OEM specifications in area of expertise.
Strong communication skills; verbal, written, technical presentations.
Proficient skills in applicable manufacturing process control, Value Engineering, FMEA & Six Sigma.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to successfully coordinate and complete multiple tasks within and across departments to meet established and changing deadlines.
Proficient with computer software applications, including word processing, spreadsheets and database applications.
Full working knowledge of FMEA, Control Plans, Advanced Quality Planning, Statistical Process Control and problem-solving methodologies.
Additional Information
Work performed in an office and manufacturing plant environments. Normal mobility to move around an office and shop floor environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer. Continuously walks and stands. Frequently performs fine finger movements, grips/grasps, push/pulls, bends/stoops, and lifts and carries parts up to thirty (30) lbs. Must be available to work any shift as well as weekends and holidays as needed.
