Job description
The SVP, Strategic Planning will be a member of the LPL Strategy & New Ventures leadership team and will focus on connecting the corporate strategy with execution across the teams and functions of LPL. The SVP, Strategic Planning will partner with LPL’s Management Committee (or C-suite) to identify, prioritize, and support execution of strategic projects that contribute to LPL’s growth agenda. Key focus areas include new offering development, customer experience & journeys, product & technology, and sales & service model. The SVP, Strategic Planning will also provide ongoing strategic thought partnership to LPL executives and help connect corporate priorities to LPL’s multi-year plan through the OKR process (Objectives and Key Results).
The SVP, Strategic Planning will report into the EVP, Strategy & New Ventures and play a high-visibility role driving LPL’s growth agenda across the organization. The SVP, Strategic Planning will focus on developing the new function and executing strategic project work, while also recruiting additional supporting team members.
Essential Functions:
75%: Strategic Projects
Meet regularly with members of the Management Committee to identify strategic priorities and prioritize firm-wide needs to shape the portfolio of strategic initiatives
Develop a process to track, monitor and report on the progress of the portfolio of strategic initiatives, with alignment to OKRs and key metrics
Manage & execute 2-4 month long strategic projects across new offering development, customer experience & journeys, product & technology, and sales & service model
Conduct independent research & analysis, including understanding client insights and the competitive landscape
Partner with LPL leaders to understand needs, develop options, and test solutions
Partner with EVP, Strategy & New Ventures to provide ongoing visibility to the CEO on strategic projects
25%: Ongoing Strategic Thought Partnership
Partner with members of the Management Committee to define the strategy of their respective teams/functions
Help translate priorities into investment needs and other strategic decisions (e.g., operating model)
Contribute to strategic efforts that are separate from our growth agenda (e.g., scalability reviews)
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field; MBA or other advanced degree required
6-8 years post-MBA experience or 10-12 years total experience
Experience at a top-tier management consultancy and/or strategy team at a financial services company; additional operating experience a plus
Deep knowledge of the advice industry, including customer trends, key players, differentiating capabilities, and profit drivers
Ability to tell a story & develop frameworks to frame learnings and recommendations
Ability to independently and simultaneously manage multiple efforts
Strong relationship skills and experience influencing senior leaders
Leadership experience of programs & initiatives as well as teams
Ability to collaborate across the Strategy & New Ventures team and successfully navigate the broader LPL organization
Strong management skills and ability to attract, develop, and retain talent
Functional abilities in PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Outlook
