We are seeking a Tax Manager who specialized in sales, use and renovation tax related to Commercial General Contractors. Responsibilities will include performing multi-state tax research regarding state and local sales & use tax matters such as tax planning, implementation, due diligence, resolving controversies with state and local jurisdictions, filing multi-state sales & use tax returns, addressing audit engagement letters, preparing documents for audits, and closing sales & use tax audits. Responsibilities and Functions
- Advise field personnel regarding sales tax issues to ensure client contracts are appropriately accounting for tax situations and proper billing, collection, and payment of state taxes occurs
- Review state and local tax literature and inform appropriate personnel of changes in law and regulations which affect contract administration, data accumulation, operations, and client relations
- Manage the risk associated with tax audits by putting procedures in place to reduce the likelihood of sales & use tax errors by operations teams and to ensure compliance with tax and licensing regulations
- Supervise and/or prepare sales & use tax returns
- Manage state and local sales tax audits and work with government auditors to close out audits with results favorable
- Compile and prepare real personal property tax information for submission to outside tax consultant
- Assist in preparing various state annual reports and tax returns as required including revenue apportionment schedules
- Prepare abandoned property reports
- Maintain databases related to company profiles, state and city licenses, architect licenses and federal tax returns
- Research and draft technical memoranda regarding sales & use tax compliance
- Research and draft summaries of state & city tax legislation
- Oversee multi-state, sales & use tax compliance requirements impacting construction projects
- Review and file information related to state & city sales tax returns
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Experience working for a Commercial General Contractor or experience performing sales tax audits on construction companies in the state of Texas preferred
- Experience in providing tax research and technical advice on multi-state tax issues
- Advanced Excel skills required (VLOOKUP and Pivot Tables)
- Detail oriented with strong analytical skills
- The ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with others
- Strong abilities in setting objectives and goals, establishing priorities, allocating resources, and anticipating future requirements
