MAJOR FUNCTIONS:
Under general direction of the Teacher, this position provides direct instructional services and support to students. The Teacher’s Assistant is expected to respect and observe the Agency’s values and principles and work within its established framework.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist with the day-to-day instruction as directed by Teacher and/or immediate supervisor.- Support and integrate students’ clinical treatment and educational goals.
- Engage and instruct classified students with modifications per their Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
- Deliver teaching assistant services as needed, including individual and/or group tutoring, remediation/enrichment, curriculum planning, projects, parent-teacher conferences, academic coaching, student recognition planning, etc.
- Assist in assessment and retesting of Title 1 mandated Wide Range Achievement Tests.
- Review, update, and maintain academic files as appropriate.
- Assist teachers in monitoring, documenting, and communicating student admissions, progress, transfers and discharges.
- Help teachers prepare, review, and disseminate student reports as needed.
- Provide student information as requested, according to the guidelines of the confidentiality code.
- Help students’ adherence to program/classroom structure.
- Help facilitate community speaking engagements and functions.
- Assist in hosting community events.
- Perform additional duties as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma/GED, required. Bachelor’s Degree in Education, preferred.- NY State Teaching Assistant Certification Level I, required. Teaching Assistant Level II and III certification, preferred.
- Must have at least one-two years teaching assistant experience preferred.
- Prior experience working with clients with substance use disorder and/or mental illness preferred.

- Knowledge of Mental Health status and diagnosis of each client on their caseload.
- Knowledge of the laws regarding personnel and client information.
- Knowledge of Client Rights/Code of Ethics.
- Compassionate with a lot of patience.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.- Adaptable to change in the work environment.
- Good computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office
