    REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Special Services

    WAGE: Exempt

    PAY GRADE: Teacher Salary Scale (MIN: *$60,500) *Based on the 2022-2023 Salary Schedule

    DAYS: 187



    PRIMARY PURPOSE:
    The Special Education Elementary Bilingual Itinerant Teacher is responsible for supporting the instruction of bilingual students with disabilities in the education program determined appropriate by the Admission, Review and Dismissal Committee.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Required:
    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
    • Valid Texas elementary teaching certificate with special education and bilingual endorsements

    Preferred:
    • 2+ years teaching experience

    SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
    • Knowledge of instructional technology and methodologies, modifications and
    • accommodations for special education students in the classroom
    • environment
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills in both English and Spanish
    • Outstanding interpersonal skills to work with multiple departments and numerous
    • campuses
    • Knowledge of special education laws, policies and procedures

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
    • Facilitate teachers’ understanding and awareness of appropriate techniques and methodologies benefiting bilingual students.
    • Assist teachers with implementation of accommodations recommended for success in the classroom environment.
    • Monitor identified special education students for continued progress on IEP’s.
    • Collaborate with teachers and appraisal personnel in the development of IEP’s are based on present levels of performance.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:
    The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: physical mobility, standing, prolonged sitting, some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling , reaching/repetitive hand motions, and the ability to work with frequent interruptions. May be required to lift or position students with physical disabilities; control behavior through physical restraint; and assist non-ambulatory students. Exposure to biological hazards. Mental demands: Ability to maintain emotional control under stress; ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations; ability to interpret a variety of data, ability to be effective in both oral and written communication. Travel within the district as required.
