JOB DESCRIPTION:

Our part-time Sylvan Instructors will be trained on the Sylvan curriculum and given the tools to teach in a small group, 3:1 setting. At Sylvan Learning Center, we teach students (Kindergarten through High School) at various levels to increase confidence and independence, providing them with skills that will last a lifetime. Centers offer instruction in Reading, Writing, Math, Homework Support, Study Skills and College Prep (ACT/SAT).

As a successful Instructor, you will:

• Deliver Quality Education

• Prepare for each instructional session; Gather and prepare materials as appropriate
• Greet students and initiate instruction to personally engage each student
• Teach Sylvan based programs and personalized learning plans using the iPad for a more engaging and interactive learning experience
• Supervise, interact with and motivate students during instruction hour while working on lessons that adapt to the students' individual skill and pace, making learning challenging and fun, never frustrating.
• Provide students with instant feedback and recognition
• Evaluate and document student progress

• Inspire Students

• Develop rapport with students, and establish a fun learning environment
• Maintain a positive attitude, and demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching at Sylvan
• Motivates students with Sylvan tokens given for specific achievements according to the Sylvan instructional management standards
• Records and tracks tokens earned by students

Knowledge and Experience Preferred:

• Language Arts and Study Skills Program Teachers:
  • Four year degree or equivalent preferred
  • State or provincial teaching credentials preferred (current or expired)
  • Minimum of one or two years of teaching experience preferred
  • Knowledge of phonics and reading comprehension preferred for reading teachers
• Math Program Teachers:
  • Four year degree required in a discipline requiring 3 or more years of college level math
• SAT/ACT, Test Prep, and Advanced Reading Skills Teachers:
  • Four year degree or equivalent preferred

Hours of instruction:

We are looking for instructors to teach Monday – Thursday after school and Saturdays 9am–1pm. You do not have to be available all hours to apply.

This is an hourly, non-exempt position.
