Technical Director / Production Manager

Summary: This role supports the technical design, management, and instructional support of all aspects of technical theater for the Bailey Performing Arts Center programming.

Reports to: High School Principal/Elementary School Principal

Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Theater or Theater Design

Classification: 10 month, non-exempt

Job Description:
Management:
1. Responsible for scheduling the Performing Arts Center (PAC) and all of its spaces for the entire school year. This includes productions/performances, gallery shows, rehearsals, auditions, class time, and outside events. Coordinates with the Facilities, Tech, and Marketing Teams as needed.
2. Collaborates with PAC teachers and staff to create each yearly calendar.
3. Oversees maintenance and management of the PAC calendar – specifically additions, subtractions, and other changes.
4. Creates and proposes a budget for technical expenses for the PAC.
5. Manages yearly budget for technical expenses for the PAC.
6. Purchases materials for any PAC-related projects.
7. Fields requests for events in the PAC from all sources (PAC, On-Campus, Off-Campus), and manages request approvals.
8. Meets with event requestors and organizes all technical needs for the given event.
9. Secures services from outside vendors as needed to run or support events in PAC.
10. Organizes rentals of PAC spaces from outside companies and vendors.

Technical Direction:
1. Acts as a technical administrator, keeping all technical portions of each production on task and on time.
2. Collaborates with Theater Directors to ideate all scenic designs for the main stage productions in the school year (HS Fall, HS Spring, 4th Grade, 7th/8th Grade, 1st Grade, and Kindergarten) and create a unified vision for each production.
3. Conceptualizes all scenic designs from ideas to sketches, to renderings, to models.
4. Creates all construction documents for the building of scenic designs.
5. Acts as a master carpenter, building all scenic elements for all main stage productions.
6. Assists in the creation of complex or specialty props.
7. Responsible for scene shop maintenance and management.
8. Responsible for storage and salvage of all scenic materials.
9. Oversees yearly maintenance of stage and space.
10. Performs quarterly inspection of rigging equipment.
11. Coordinates yearly inspection of rigging motors.
12. Purchases yearly consumable materials for space (batteries, tape, etc.).

Sound & Lights:
1. Creates sound designs for all productions and events in PAC
2. Creates lighting designs for all productions and events in PAC.
3. Identifies any necessary repairs on all theatrical lighting equipment in PAC and Brady Center.

Teacher and Classroom Support:
1. Assists in teaching Technical Theater classes as needed.
2. Moderates an Audio/Visual and Set Design student club to empower students to embrace the foundations of technical theater.
3. Creates projects for Technical Theater classes as needed.
4. Assists other teachers across campus as requested.
5. Acts as technical support (sound, lighting, etc.) for PAC teachers as needed throughout the school day.
6. Assists in crafting items needed for student project support.
7. Assists in crafting items needed for art show support.
8. Teaches summer Technical Theater course for High School, if offered, at an additional rate.

Events:
1. Attends and supervises all events in PAC (during school and evening).
2. Sets up all technical needs for events in PAC (audio, lighting, scenic, and video) during school and evening.
3. Attends and supervises special events outside the PAC and off campus, including:
-Christmas Tree Lighting
-Auction
-Dad's Club Golf Tournament
-Graduation
-Other events as they arise.
-Coordinates with outside vendors to run events.
