Job description

The First Presbyterian Church of Jamestown, NY., a member of the Western New York Presbytery, has a temporary position available for a pastor to serve as a transitional pastor who will be responsible for leading the church until a permanent pastor is identified and hired.

First Presbyterian Church has a listed membership of approximately 255 members and has an average worship attendance of 75. The church membership is primarily Caucasian and is located in an impoverished neighborhood.

He/She will head and support the congregation and the Session with its committees and programs as well as supervise the church staff, which consists of a Minister of Music, a Finance Manager, A director of A Children’s Place, and a Coordinator of Ministry Communications.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

· Deliver sermons on Sundays.

· Visit the sick and shut-ins and provide pastoral care.

· Perform weddings and funerals as needed.

· Serve as ex-officio member of all committees (with the exception of the Pastoral Nominating Committee) as needed.

· Lead the congregation through the transitional period and encourage their future ministry.

Preferred Qualifications:

· Be an ordained clergy person.

· Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with clarity and compassion with all age groups.

· Experienced in delivering meaningful sermons.
