The Zoo is recruiting for multiple Part-Time & Full-Time Temporary Positions to work March - mid-December
Hourly Rate of Pay: $13.00

Temporary positions are assigned to the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources - NC Zoo in Asheboro - Randolph County. Position will work flexible schedules and hours based on business needs.

Primary Purpose:
The Entertainment Branch supports the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (DNCR) and the zoo’s mission by providing professional and safe attraction operations and controlled animal encounter/viewing experiences to guests as well as generating revenue for zoo operations. Attraction operations include a Carousel, AirHike Ropes Course and Treehouse Trek Adventure Area. Animal Encounters/Viewing include a Butterfly Garden, Giraffe Deck and Zoofari Tour. Each of these venues help promote the zoo’s conservation messages, promote the zoo as a fun, educational, family-oriented tourism destination and generates approximately $500,000 in annual revenue for zoo operations. This branch’s operations are an integral part of the zoo’s strategic and operational planning

Under direct supervision, provides an outstanding guest experience while ensuring safe operation of the Zoo’s Air Hike Ropes Course. This position provides outstanding guest service and assists the entertainment department in contributing to the mission of the Zoo. Primary responsibilities include safely and efficiently operating AirHike ensuring that safety guidelines are communicated and followed at all times and providing information to guests.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for attentive operation of AirHike in accordance with established safety protocols.
  • Maintain a friendly and approachable attitude towards the guests, and staff at all times.
  • Provide guests with exceptional customer service, including but not limited to those outlined by department guidelines.
  • Politely and diplomatically enforces policies and procedures concerning both guests and employees.
  • Fully understands rides/attractions operating and safety procedures and communicates designated safety instructions consistently to guests.
  • Assist guests while getting on and off rides, physically ensure safety restraints are properly locked, as well as inform guests of all applicable safety policies and procedures.
  • Respond and assist in emergency situations. At times, assists in evacuation of rides, which may require climbing and or working from heights.
  • Keep and document accurate rider counts.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of AirHike and surrounding areas.
  • Follow established guidelines to promote the safety of guests and staff.
Job Requirements:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be comfortable working from heights up to 27 feet (Air Hike).
  • Must be able to speak to groups of guests regarding attraction instructions including harness checks, safety equipment checks, procedures and/or restrictions.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of physical positions, including sitting, bending, reaching, standing, walking, and lifting and carrying 30 lbs.
  • Must have ability to navigate paved as well as rough or uneven pathways.
  • Must comply with NC Zoo Dress Code and Appearance Policy.
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions typical to Central NC (i.e. heat, rain, or cold) and stand/walk for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to tolerate exposure to, outdoor allergens, dust, fumes, odor, loud noises, motion, and vibrations.
  • Ability to use radio, telephone, and computer to communicate and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to safely operate rides, and handle tools and equipment.
  • Possesses sufficient cognitive ability, auditory and visual acuity and communication skills to perform essential duties and follow general safety practices.
  • Must be able to work varied and long shifts including holidays, weekends and in support of special events as needed.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
