IES safely and reliably operates a large distribution system across four islands consisting of six terminals. This operator position is located at our terminals in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Honolulu Terminal Marine (HTM) and Honolulu Terminal Transportation (HTT) are key parts of our Logistics Business where we distribute and market energy products critical to the State of Hawai‛i and to the people that live and visit here. A Terminal Operator has a key role to play in our success. Under the general supervision of the Terminal Manager and Head Operator the Terminal Operator conducts daily activities from terminal inspections to preventative maintenance to product quality testing to working with maintenance and contactors completing construction activities. The Terminal Operator will also work with customers, tankermen and our haulers to ensure energy products are delivered on specification and delivered on time. The Terminal Operator will be expected to work 12-hour days and must have flexible schedules allowing the person to work shifts following the barge schedule, these shifts include nights, weekends, and holidays. Island Energy provides a generous benefits package as well as a progressive pay scale.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Carry out all work activities in an environmentally conscious manner, maintaining a safe working environment, and being prepared to identify issues, call for assistance, and respond to any type of incident(s) and emergencies at HTM and HTT.
- Perform duties related to a Marine Operation such as clear verbal communications with tankermen, hooking up 6-inch hoses, and meeting the requirements for a “Person in Charge” during marine vessel refueling or during over the water fuel transfers to and from barges or ships at Pier 30.
- Perform duties related to pipeline receipts such as understanding pipeline schedules, ensuring proper valve alignment, hourly monitoring, sampling and testing product and accurate documenting all activities are taking place. Coordinates and communicates with the Terminal Manager.
- Performs daily, weekly, and monthly inspections and preventative maintenance for proper operation, and ensure compliance with all environmental and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with Supply Schedulers, Pipeline Control Center, Marine Agents, Contractors and Transporters ensuring clear communication regarding all product movements and schedules.
- Complete all daily activities at HTT and HTM. Some examples are receiving and transferring a variety of products from pipelines to ships and barges, gauging, switching tanks serving the TTLR (Truck trailer loading rack).
- Response to terminal incident and safely manage incidents, spill, loss of containment both at Pier 30 and Terminal Tank Farm and Truck Load Rack.
- Responsible for maintaining timely and accurate terminal records and reconciling terminal stock.
- Attention to detail. Completing tasks and documentation with limited error.
- Able to operate sophisticated fuel automation, computer systems, and laboratory equipment.
- Perform all required product confirmation tests, which includes climbing storage tanks, gauging, sampling and handling product safely and documentation.
- Infrequent travel to neighboring islands for business needs is part of this position.
- Position requires applicant to work varying shifts including nights, weekends, or holidays (shift work). Overtime is required to meet various business needs.
- Must be able to meet all physical requirements of the job including climbing stairs and working on top of product storage tanks over 60 feet high, climb multiple tanks per shift, lift product hoses and other terminal equipment.
- Perform other duties consistent with the scope of the position.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Must have a clean driving record and a valid driver’s license
- Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with a diverse team of coworkers and contractors, as well as internal and external customers.
- Must be able to meet all physical requirements of the job including climbing stairs and working on top of product storage tanks over 60 feet high, climb multiple tanks per shift, lift product hoses and other terminal equipment.
- Position requires applicate to work varying shifts including nights, weekends, or holidays (shift work). Overtime is required to meet various business needs
- Infrequent travel to neighboring islands for business needs part of this position.
- Must possess various computer skills and have good working knowledge of Word, Excel, and email systems
- Must possess ability to read and interpret operations manuals, analyze, and apply basic troubleshooting and repair techniques on various terminal equipment
- Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with a diverse team of coworkers, contractors, and internal and external customers.
- Clear and effective communication skills, both oral and written.
- Good Organizational skills.
- Ability to compute basic math accurately.
- Ability to work in a Union environment.
- Experience with confined space and usage of various types of respirators.
- Strong focus on Safety, Workplace Safety, Workplace Safety Management, Process Safety Management.
- Microsoft Office skills.
- Petroleum Industry experience.
- Willingness to commit to IES core values: Aloha, Lōkahi, Hoʻohana and Kīnāʻole.
- Pass background check including periodic job-related physical abilities testing as required.
- This is a safety sensitive position and random drug testing is required.
- Willingness to devote the time as needed to meet project and task deadline.
- Willingness to maintain or increase skills.
- Currently hold or have ability to obtain Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) Clearance.
This position is represented by the United Steel, Paper and Forestry, Rubber, Manufacturing, Energy, Allied Industrial and Service Workers International Union (USW).

WORKING CONDITIONS
- This position works in an outdoor environment under various weather conditions including but not limited to: humidity, rain, wind, sunlight, changes in temperature and strong odors.
- This position requires entry to confined spaces and cramped quarters.
Employment is contingent upon successfully passing an employee reference check, drug test, criminal background check and a five-year motor vehicle history check. This is a non-exempt position under FLSA regulations.
