Overview:
Sierra Lobo, offers customers a full range of professional and technical capabilities, including Test and Evaluation, Systems Engineering, and Advanced Technologies. We also develop products and processes related to Cryogenic Fluid and Thermal Management Systems, Densified Propellant Management Systems, and Prototype Extreme Pressure and Temperature Systems. This position will be located at NASA Ames, CA.

Responsibilities:
  • FUNCTION OF POSITION


Provides engineering and operational support for the Electric Arc Shock Tube (EAST) and miniature Arc-Jet (mARC) facilities at the NASA Ames Research Center (ARC). Work will include operation and technical oversight of mechanical and electrical equipment and instrumentation in the test facilities in the TSF Branch at NASA ARC.


  • DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - ENGINEERING SUPPORT

  • Supports test facility operations under the guidance of senior staff.


  • Develops plans, requirements, drawings and work instructions for implementing repairs, upgrades and modifications of the facility equipment, infrastructure, instrumentation and control systems.


  • Provides technical expertise to the users of the facilities in planning test projects to insure proper match of facility requirements with capabilities, balance of resources, and integration of schedules.


  • Provides technical expertise and guidance in overall planning, maintenance, and operation of assigned facilities.


  • Works with test engineers, facility management and customers to develop fixtures, holders, brackets, mechanisms, and other designs to accommodate new testing requirements.


  • Prepares documentation supporting facility development efforts.


  • Prepares specifications and purchase requisitions for facility hardware.

  • Writes Statements of Work (SOWs), performs job walks and manages subcontractors and subcontract work as needed.


  • NATURE OF POSITION CHALLENGES


Providing engineering support and leadership in the planning, preparation, and operation of tests at the facilities that meet project test requirements on schedule and within the budgeted resources.


  • SUPERVISOR GUIDANCE


Works under the general guidance of the Project Manager or Engineering Supervisor. Is responsible for executing projects within approved work plans and resources.


Qualifications:
EDUCATION, TRAINING, & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
General knowledge and understanding of aerospace testing and facility operations. Understanding of test systems involving high-voltage electrical power, hydraulics, high pressure, high vacuum, pneumatics, fluid mechanics, fluid dynamics, thermal analysis, and mechanical design. Understanding of materials and state-of-the-art manufacturing techniques, and experience with SolidWorks and ANSYS a plus. Project management and customer interface skills desirable.

Requires, as a minimum, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Physics or a related field. Prior work experience with similar equipment is desirable. US Citizenship required.
