GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:
Under the direction of Test Engineers, the Test Technician’s is accountable for their quality, completeness, timeliness, troubleshooting, and data collected in the spirit of product development.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Testing
- Set up and perform various hydraulic, mechanical, structural, or NVH tests in the lab or in field environments.
- Work independently and/or with other technicians & engineers in the assembly and disassembly of test components and machines.
- Perform lab and field tests as directed, & documenting activities during tests.
- Perform test troubleshooting, data debugging, signal processing and basic report writing.
- Monitor lab durability tests and conduct periodic inspections.
- Document Test Incidents, machine repairs, and machine maintenance activity.
- Other duties, including lab clean up, machine delivery, & coordination of field-testing.
Software
- Basic MS Office and/or Google Suite knowledge is required.
- Ability to learn and support the TE group with various data analysis tools such as SoMat Infield/TCE and CAN loggers.
Hardware
- Setup and operation of data collection systems to collect CAN, low voltage signals, strain, thermal, location, etc...
- Utilize multi-meter and other electrical diagnostic tools.
Instrumentation
- Support Test engineering with keeping instrumentation in calibration.
- Utilize torque & force transducers, thermal couples, pressure transducers, microphones, accelerometers, and apply strain gauges in accordance with Test Engineer direction to obtain quantitative data.
- Maintain and coordinate supplies and equipment needed.
Facility
- Maintain a professional atmosphere by following 6S Lean Manufacturing policies.
- Maintain project hours and submissions.
Driver/Operator
- Safely operate Manitou products.
- Rig and haul Manitou product on trailers to and from test sites. This requires a valid Class A license.
- Follows all Manitou safety policies, including Lockout Tagout and PPE.
Mechanical
- Safely operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and perform minor welding.
- Assemble prototype units and / or make modifications to existing units based on verbal and written instructions.
- Must provide your own hand tools and tool box.
- Perform basic part fabrication.
Leadership
- This role has no direct reports.
- Understand, support and promote company policies, schedules, and safety policies.
EXPERIENCE:
- Experience with hydraulics preferred.
- Experience with Data acquisition systems and transducers preferred. Ability and willingness to obtain further training with these devices is required.
EXPERTISE:
- Self-driven, highly motivated, with the ability to work independently and in teams.
- Good mechanical skills & personal hand tools are required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, organization, and advocate of 6S Lean Manufacturing.
EDUCATION:
- 2-year Technology degree or 4 years direct technical experience is required (automotive, construction, agriculture, etc.)
- Commercial Driver License (CDL) or the ability to obtain within the first six mo. of employment is required.

- Internal: Test Engineering, Design Engineering, Prototype Fabrication/Assembly, Product Management, Manufacturing &Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain & Purchasing, Quality, Service & Solutions and Technical Publication
- External: Suppliers/Vendors and Subcontractors
ENVIRONMENTAL/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Physical activities include installing and running data acquisition systems on construction equipment. Capability to be in a jobsite or production factory environment, heat, cold, wet, dry, etc. for periods of time is required.
- Work in both lab and field settings. Temperatures range with the weather (hot, cold, wet, dry, etc…)
- Occasional travel to support test activities may be required (<10%), must be willing to travel by air (domestic) if needed.
- Occasionally lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.
- Physically fit (i.e. able to climb in and out of machines, bend to inspect machines, etc.)
LOCALIZATION AND TRAVEL EXPECTED:
- This position is located in West Bend, WI.
- Travel up to 10% both domestically and internationally.
