Overview:
Manages the recovery efforts of the Tissue Recovery Specialists and Team Leaders in the surgical removal of bone and other tissue for transplantation. Provides clinical supervision and oversight for all tissue recovery activities.
Participates in Administrative on-call schedule for the Tissue Department.
BS in biology or medical sciences from a college or university and three to five years related experience and/or training
Salary Range: $ 110,113 - $165,169
Leads and instructs the Tissue Recovery Team at hospital locations and other recovery facilities within LiveOnNY service area. Ensures adherence to AORN standards regarding surgical sterile technique during tissue recovery procedures. Ensure compliance with LiveOnNY policies and procedures, FDA regulations, AATB standards, OSHA standards, DOH regulations and the standards and procedures of affiliated tissue banks are followed during tissue recoveries. Supports and fosters the mission of the organization and its commitment to organ and tissue donation.

Tissue Recovery Manager Responsibilities:
Manages the recovery efforts of the Tissue Recovery Specialists and Team Leaders in the surgical removal of bone and other tissue for transplantation. Provides clinical supervision and oversight for all tissue recovery activities.
Assists department Director in developing, implementing and evaluating policies relevant to maximizing tissue recovery efforts and supporting all legal and regulatory requirements. Ensures procedures are consistent with the standards of affiliated accredited agencies.
Conducts didactic recovery requirements and follows up to ensure that all regulations are adhered to.
Responsible for the preparation of monthly on- call and daily schedules for tissue recovery staff and oversees daily deployment of recovery teams. Maintains appropriate staffing levels within the department. Evaluates tissue recovery staff performance and adequacy of staffing. Approves monthly expense reports for tissue & recovery staff.
Coordinates with the Donor Center to evaluate tissue referrals and to facilitate tissue recovery. Ensures appropriate communication, both written and oral, with donor coordinators.
Ensures that systems are in place to support tissue recovery staff with respect to supplies, storage, sterilization and logistical needs. Assures the transportation of recovered tissue to designated destination.
Collaborates with Hospital Services to initiate hospital development activities promoting tissue donation and referrals.
Collaborates with LiveOnNY departments to ensure compliance with LiveOnNY, FDA, AATB, affiliated tissue bank, and NYS DOH standards. Gathers and interprets data to identify quality indicators to improve tissue recovery coordinator performance.
Monitors contamination and surgical error rates and develops corrective action plans to ensure quality improvement.
Responsible for orientation & training, documenting and evaluating Tissue Recovery staff. Performs and coordinates continuing education activities for staff based on identified staff development needs. Assures that tissue recovery staff achieves and maintain AATB certification, where applicable.
Ensures adequate staffing coverage 24/7 for tissue recovery. Makes necessary changes in staffing based on case activity. Provides coverage during staff shortages, if necessary, up to and including weekend coverage to maintain departmental performance and to minimize overtime.
Participates in Administrative on-call schedule for the Tissue Department.
Authority to hire and fire employees and recommend for advancement or promotion while using independent judgment and discretion in significant matters of company policy.

Qualifications:
Tissue Recovery Manager Qualifications:
BS in biology or medical sciences from a college or university and three to five years related experience and/or training
Master’s degree preferred
Superior knowledge of human anatomy and function
CTBS (Certified Tissue Bank specialist) certification or eligible required.
Previous management experience preferred.
