We are hiring seasonal captains to work for San Juan Cruises at the Bellingham Cruise Terminal in Fairhaven for the 2023 season. Must have a valid100 ton USCG Master License to operate our four vessels. Captains will be responsible for operating a variety of cruises in Bellingham Bay, the San Juan Islands and La Conner. We operate whale watching tours, trips to Friday Harbor, Cracked Crab dinner cruises, Beer and Wine tasting cruises and more. We also do many private charters and even some multi-day cruises into the islands as well.

Duties include:

• Operating any of our four passenger vessels on a variety of cruises throughout the San Juan Islands, Bellingham Bay and La Conner & the Swinomish Channel.
• Vessels range in size from 50ft. - 100ft. The largest able to carry up to 120 passengers.
• Conduct crew training and drills
• Follow all guidelines for operating around whales and wildlife in line with the PWWA (Pacific Whale Watch Association)
• Cash handling
• Responsible for safety of all passengers and crew aboard the vessel.
• General maintenance of vessels and engines.
• Engine room checks, fueling and pumping out of holding tanks.
• Overseeing and supervising the crew as manager.
• Narrating the cruises alongside a naturalist and positively interacting with the passengers in person and over the microphone.
• Able to work days that can be anywhere between 6-14 hours long.
• Must be able to work weekdays and weekends throughout the season

The 2023 Season will be April 1st– October 1st

Nearly all of our cruises include food and beverage service that the crew prepare on board as part of the tour. We have naturalists on board that narrate for our whale watching and Sucia island picnic cruises.Experience with operating vessels and knowledge of local waters is a plus!

• 6 month period April 1st – October 1st

Benefits:

• Sick pay is gained at 40 hrs. worked = 1 hrs. time accrued. At the end of the season any unused time is paid out to each employee.
• Tips! These are split among the captain and crew on each vessel at the end of the day. Everything is pooled and split completely evenly.
• Free meals. As we serve our meals to passengers in a buffet style. All trips that have meals on them, which is most, will also feed the crew. This will be multiple trips per day in many occasions, so free meals/snacks and beverages are available whenever these meals are cooked.

Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour
