Position Description:
Traffic Inspector
**Work Location: Atlanta, GA **
Salary: Based on experience and will be discussed with manager in interview
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review Temporary Traffic Control plans, those plans in addition to MOT plans when requested for conformance with Contract Docs and MUTCD
- Inspect DB lane closure for adherence to APPROVED TRAFFIC INTERRUPTION REQUEST (location and # closed)
- Inspect and review and comment on TC-1’s submitted by DB; in addition to coordinating with WTCS on correction of deficient lane closures
- Inspect and record when land closures are installed AND removed
- Inspect contractor’s traffic control implementation during major interstate reconstruction project
- Review reports on detours, road or lane closures, openings to traffic and other traffic interruptions using the Traffic Interruption Report (TIR)
- Ensure that all traffic control devices are effective and comply with the Traffic Control Plan (TCP). Review any modifications to the TCP
- Report to the engineer/project manager who reviews work through conferences, observation of work performed, and overall results achieved.
- Communicate with the general public, other employees, vendors, management, and contractors in order to relay/review job progress and scheduling of work
- Prepare documentation to relay job progress and describe unusual job site conditions
- Attend required meetings with DB and PMT
- Understand and interpret schematic drawings
- Learn job-related material through on-the-job training and in a classroom setting regarding field procedures
- Develop strong working relationships with clients and teaming partners
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related discipline.
- 5+ years of related work experience in the area of inspections, traffic control or transportation construction.
- Understanding and familiarity with MUTCD and GDOT Design Guidelines and Standards.
- Familiar with traffic control plans including but not limited to traffic shifts, detours, lane closures or other activities that disrupt traffic flow.
- Strong written and verbal communication, ability to work collaboratively, proficient with basic word processing programs, strong organizational and time management skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Physically mobile in and around construction sites and field assignments
- Ability to carry locating instruments and equipment
- Should enjoy working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- The work also involves working near heavy construction equipment, standing and climbing in and out of deep trenches, exposure to hazardous materials, chemicals, and dust, and working during inclement weather conditions. Incumbents are required to use appropriate safety equipment and procedures in performing assignments
