Hours: 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. - Core Schedule
IF APPOINTED PROVISIONALLY,THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT MUST BE QUALIFIED TO TAKE THE CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATION WHEN MADE AVAILABLE AND MUST BE REACHABLE ON THE LIST. FOR PERMANENT APPOINTMENT, THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE MUST HOLD THE TITLE OF TRANSPORTATION COORDINATOR.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This position involves the coordination of the various aspects of the school's transportation program. The duties involve preparing school bus routes and schedules for regular and special bus runs, and preparation of required reports and may assist in the administration of the school's transportation budget. The work is performed under general supervision of the Director of Transportation Supervision may be exercised over school bus drivers, clerical staff, Head Bus Drivers and 19-A certified staff. Does related work, as required.
DUTIES OF ASSIGNMENT:
Prepares bus routes for regular daily runs, including all public and non-public school students and BOCES vocational and special education students; Assign bus routes for overflow and special education students; evaluate routes for determining conformance with policies and mandated guidelines;
Determine student pick-up points and bus turn-around locations and maintain maps indicating these points on the routes;
Prepare and update bus schedules for daily routes;
Coordinate and schedule bus drivers for all extracurricular trips; review field trip requests for purposes of arranging transportation
Supervise, train and aid in the recruiting of all transportation personnel;
May assist in the administration of the school's transportation budget;
May assist in the preparation of State Aid transportation reports;
Assure that all State laws, rules and regulations are followed with regards to safety standards, and provide all necessary reports as required;
Develop a program of safety instruction for bus riders that meets state requirements;
Utilize computer programs to increase the efficiency of all operations of the transportation program; input data into computerized transportation systems for purposes of creating routes and maps; maintain data in scheduling system;
Attend appropriate committee and staff meetings; participate in activities for the purpose of gathering information required to perform functions;
Communicate with drivers, school personnel and others for purposes of assisting with route related problems;
Communicate with staff and parents for purposes of conveying information and route changes; respond to inquiries from students, parents and staff regarding busing issues;

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND/OR PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of the operation of school buses; good knowledge of driving safety practices and traffic laws and regulations; ability to provide annual training of drivers (requires SBDI certification) good knowledge of the geography of the area; ability to follow oral and written directions; ability to assign and oversee the work of others; ability to work well with others; dependability; ability to keep records and prepare reports; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee constantly is required to stand; walk; and use hands to finger, handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and hear.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Job Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma recognized by the NYS Department of Education and two (2) years of full-time paid experience in a position involving the coordination of vehicle maintenance and public transportation services.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Requires excellent problem solving skills and ability to operate a variety of software programs in support of the District’s student transportation system;
Must have interpersonal skills and ability to acquire knowledge of transportation operations, policies and procedures.
The preferred candidate will hold a valid and current CDL license with a “P” and “S” endorsement.
Must hold a certificate of School Bus Driver Instructor (SBDI), or be eligible to complete the credentials within six months of employment.
