Position Summary


As a Shop Coordinator for signal and lighting activities, duties for sourcing and managing the 35,000 square feet warehouse include:

  • Review specifications
  • Procure items from multiple vendors based on quality, price and other considerations
  • Schedule just-in-time delivery as well as pickup of warehoused items by third parties
  • Track orders and report status when requested
  • Maintain accurate records of invoices and receipts
  • Conduct annual inventory
  • Input traffic signal and lighting data into inventory software

Other related duties include:

  • Manage maintenance of the unit's mechanical equipment
  • Coordinate with traffic engineers
  • Change plan set details concerning material needs for signal and lighting projects

This position may also be the Hazmat Coordinator for the facility overseeing the collection, storage and shipping of hazardous materials and waste. Work is performed independently under general supervision. The individual must also be able to direct and train others performing various duties. The individuals in these positions must be able to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis and up to 100 pounds when needed. They must be able to work out of scissors lift or aerial bucket trucks at working heights of 20’ on a regular basis, up to 60' as needed. Work independently to set up work zone traffic control for electrical crews working in the field as needed.

Salary Information


These positions are in schedule-range 06-14 with an hourly salary of $23.84, plus excellent benefits. A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

WisDOT does not sponsor work visas. Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant being able to prove valid status to work in the United States.

Certain positions within this Department may allow remote/work from home flexibility for a portion of their work schedule, depending on the needs of the position and the work unit. For positions that do allow remote work flexibility, although residency in the State of WI is not required for permanent positions, it is not anticipated that working outside of WI or bordering cities will be allowed as positions may at times need to report to office locations in WI on short notice.

Qualifications


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

    • The ability to work outside in all types of weather.
    • Occasional independent travel
    • Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License type "B" with endorsements Air Brakes and Tanker within 6 months of employment
      • WisDOT will support entry-level driver training and provide behind the wheel practice opportunities to obtain the CDL "B"
    • Lift materials and/or equipment that weigh in the range of 50 to 100 pounds.
    • Operation of construction equipment such as jackhammer, concrete saw, trencher and auger truck.
    • The ability to exert 150 pounds of pulling strength daily such as used in pulling cables into conduits.
    • The ability to climb in and out trenches on a regular basis.
    • The ability to walk over rough, irregular surfaces such as typical on road construction projects on a regular basis

  • Experience working with computer programs (which may include: word processing, spreadsheets, databases, etc.)
    • Activities performed may include: data entry, accessing information, pulling reports, etc.
