Electrical Designer
Under the direction of the Engineering Manager, the Electrical Designer will work closely with the Project Management, Applications Engineering, Purchasing/Planning and Manufacturing teams to execute standard and custom projects within the North American water/wastewater markets. The Electrical Designer will design industrial control panels by preparing layouts, schematics, bills of material (“BOM”), component specifications and diagrams while maintaining high quality and accuracy, as well as providing support to engineers and shop personnel. This position will work in an internally focused role to develop engineering or technical submittals, and project BOMs for assigned projects.
UGSI has two office locations: Vineland, NJ factory and North Wales, Pa satellite office. If based out of the North Wales office, the position initially requires frequent visits to the Vineland, NJ facility for training. After training is complete, occasional visits to the Vineland facility will be required on an as-needed basis, up to a few times a month.
Essential Job Functions

  • Utilize UL508A, NEC, NEMA, IEEE standards/codes, customer specifications and UGSI proposals to:
  • Select correct components for design.
  • Create schematics and generate BOMs, wiring diagrams and panel layouts using electrical based CAD software.
  • Generate BOMs.
  • Properly and consistently apply company design/drafting practices and procedures.
  • Perform standard calculations such as panel loads, transformer sizing and panel SCCR.
  • Generate supplemental electrical documentation such as I/O lists and component cut sheets.
  • Concurrently manage tasks for multiple projects, working with the appropriate Project Manager and other team members.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • 4+ years’ experience in designing relay and PLC based low voltage control panels for motor control (motor starters and VFDs) and instrumentation, utilizing NEC, UL 508A, NEMA and IEEE codes/standards, specifications, and proposals to generate electrical schematics, panel layouts and BOMs.
  • 2+ years’ experience using Solidworks Electrical or AutoCAD Electrical to produce schematics/drawings/BOMs.
  • Above average skill level in:
  • Self-checking work to produce accurate and correct designs.
  • Organizing, planning and time management.
  • Verbal and written communications.
  • Working independently and within a group.
  • Detailed evaluation of technical information/documents.
  • Concurrently managing multiple tasks.
  • Analyzing problems and generating solutions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, with emphasis on Excel.
  • Ability to work overtime as workload dictates, including nights and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CAD certification from an authorized training program.
  • Experience designing controls for chemical skids.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, talk and hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects, tools or controls.
  • Must have manual dexterity to operate the equipment and tools required for this position.
  • Must be able to quickly respond (with the hand, finger or foot) to a signal (sound, light, picture) when it responds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus and to use a computer monitor for majority of the workday.

Work Environment

  • Approximately 95% Office.
  • Approximately 5% Light Industrial - May be exposed to areas of high noise levels, hazardous propellants, chemicals and industrial facilities. Appropriate PPE and training will be provided for all conditions.
