Eastern Shore Animal Hospital needs Urgent Care Veterinary Assistants or Technicians as we continue to add services to our growing Hospital.

We are hiring for the following shifts - Full time, Part-time or Relief Techs

This position will fill Swing/Weekend Shifts every other weekend

Emergency Department Veterinary Technician Duties:

• Provide nursing care to critically ill hospitalized patients in conjunction with specialty and emergency veterinarians.
• Triage incoming patients.
• Assess patient stability and obtain patient vital signs.
• Perform diagnostics and treatments of emergency, specialty, and hospitalized patients.
• Perform hourly patient assessment and monitoring.
• Observe patients and recognize changes in status.
• Place peripheral and central catheters.
• Restrain patients for exams and treatments.
• Set up and administer IV and SQ fluids.
• Maintain urinary catheters.
• Bandage removal and application
• Perform suture and drain removal.
• Perform drug dose calculations for injectable medications and CRIs.
• Administer injectable medications (IV, IM, SQ)
• Administer other medications (PO, OU, OD)
• Maintain isolation protocols for infectious patients.
• Basic wound cleaning and care
• Administer injectable and inhalant anesthesia.
• Monitor patients while under anesthesia and maintain a monitoring log.
• Monitor patients during recovery from anesthesia.
• Obtain samples for and perform in-house laboratory testing.
• Client communication and education
• Patient triage and discharge
• Hospitalized patient care
• Patient monitoring and treatments
• In-house laboratory testing
• Medication calculation and administration
• Venipuncture; IV catheter placement
• Digital radiography and more

Preferred Education and Experience

• 1+ years of experience in the veterinary field
• Preference will be given to an individual desiring to pursue a degree in veterinary technology or animal science.

Competitive Pay for RVTs start at $23.00/hr. for Emergency Services

• 12 hour shift
