The Veterinary Technician plays a vital role for day-to-day function of the Clinic by being a key part in teamwork, client interactions, and pet handling and care that instills an atmosphere of trust and compassion. This position is one of dedication to both animals, our community, and our staff. The Veterinary Technician looks to better the clinic by not only properly executing tasks and upkeep, but by ensuring an atmosphere that we truly care. Fellow co-workers depend on the Veterinary Technician to assist veterinarians with patient care, educate and train assistants and interact with and educate clients.
What is the purpose of this position?
To provide compassionate care to patients and ensure all patients/clients are not only treated but leave with a lasting impression that our entire team values compassion, education, and care for every patient and person that calls or walks through our door.
It is the individual technician’s responsibility to make sure they feel comfortable and knowledgeable in all areas of the clinic. Through client education the Technician’s purpose is to help make our clinic better as a whole.

As a Veterinary Technician your role is vital in maintaining the caring atmosphere we strive to create. The importance of a technician in this role cannot be emphasized enough. The role is vital in the functioning day to day of the clinic and our clients entrust you being the best at your position. Our clients require you to be educated and knowledgeable in both medical and behavioral techniques to ensure we provide them with the best quality of care from neonate to their senior pet. Care Veterinary Services is to provide our clients with the best services from start to finish. We require all staff members to hold themselves to that high standard always understanding this enables trust in both our clients and associate staff team.

- Being able to work at a speed that delivers high quality care and be productive
- Being able to handle more tasks than just assisting the Veterinarian(s) such as curbside retrieval of patients and answering reception overflow
-Being able to evaluate the behavioral response of patients and applying the correct behavioral technique
- Not getting flustered when things get busy or patients are nervous, timid, scared, unruly, or aggressive
- Must be able to think and anticipate what the doctor will need
- Must be able to adapt to change and not be afraid to learn new technology, vet-med best methods of practice, animal behavioral techniques, professional office standards, soft skills, and co-worker communication
What products/services are directly or indirectly handled on the job?
Provide compassionate care for pets.
Assist veterinarians in patient care and medical treatments including but not limited to medication administration, vaccine administration, acquiring laboratory samples, processing in-house and reference lab samples, anesthesia induction and monitoring, dental prophy cleaning, surgical preparation, hospitalized patient care, critical/emergency care and triage.
Identify and work patiently with clients in varying emotional states.
Compassionate and gentle care of patients.
Check in clients, take medical history and obtain patient vital signs.
Fill prescriptions.
Discharge patients
Machine/Equiptment Maintenance
Well knowledgeable in clinic objectives, clinic services and recommendations
Client education.
Educate and train assistants and caretakers.
If necessary, to assist in cleaning the clinic including but not limited to laundry, floors, taking out the trash and recycling, cleaning treatment areas, exam rooms, kennels, bathrooms and kitchen.
Answer phones and make appointments as needed.
Relay appropriate information to/from clients to doctors/or management.
Maintain proper documentation in the electronic medical record.
Computer skills: Able to use Windows based computer systems, word processing, email, web search and other skills as needed to effectively use the practice management software programs.

Our patients are people who want veterinary medicine delivered by a friendly, knowledgeable, professional team. They are seeking quality pet care, education on pet health, and a non- judgmental atmosphere.
What is the precise performance/results expectations?
As a Veterinary Technician you must grasp (duplicate) the training program provided and be able to execute your duties and actions according to the organization’s standards. There is a standard way to provide compassionate care for pets, restraining pets, x-ray taking, medication administration, vaccine administration, collecting laboratory samples, processing in-house and reference lab samples, anesthesia induction and monitoring, dental prophy, surgical preparation, hospitalized pet care, critical/emergency care and triage
How are those result expectations monitored and measured?
Performance is evaluated by the Practice Manager or Veterinarian. The Veterinarian or PM would determine if something were done correctly or not. The Veterinarian or PM grades all job duties and the veterinary technician is evaluated on their personal performance along with their teamwork performance in accordance with the Care Veterinary Evaluation Form. The Veterinary Technician will have incident forms logged in their personnel file for any areas that are not being done in accordance
with the job description and training standard. Bonuses are on a reward system based on evaluation and measurable stats
What are the precise tasks, duties and responsibilities of the job?
Provides compassionate care to patients and ensure all patients/clients are treated with the same level of compassion, education, and care that you would want you and your pet to be treated with.
Be flexible with always learning and improving techniques and looking for opportunities to improve
Have the respect for the clinic that you are willing to train people how to do things correctly
Supervise and train staff -> Willingness to train others and help staff
Accountability-> this allows us to learn from our mistakes and pat ourselves on the back when we do things well
Be a leader in understanding and promoting preventatives/vaccines/HWT/disease, fecals etc
What are the required technical and/or administrative competencies & experience?
- High School Diploma or GED
- 1-2 years’ experience (preferred)
- Able to lift 50 pounds
- Must have basic computer knowledge
- Must have basic math and writing skills

You must be enthusiastic, with the attitude of "make things go right." Also, as veterinary medicine tends to not always run as scheduled, we need someone who is flexible and can figure out solutions to help keep the schedule running smooth by working with the other staff.

What training program is planned for fast results achievement?
Our onboarding program is a 12-week program. This training program will have week by week break down of expected mastered skills by the end each week. Each week will end with a meeting with management on your progress felt strengths and weaknesses along with any areas you would like to have additional training in.
What kind of performance appraisal is planned on the job?
You will get feedback from the Practice Manager daily for immediate call to act performance discrepancies. First evaluation will be completed after 90 days. Complete performance appraisal are done every 30 days.

Great work ethics, professionalism, and caring/understanding. We utilize Fortis Business Solutions management training. Every member in the team abides by those principles, which ensures good efficiency, stability at work as well as more fun work environment. We do not want a commercial feel at our clinic but do want a professional, will-do, helpful attitude with all our staff.
