Summary
The Vice President of Supply Chain, Operations reports to the President and COO and will plan, direct, coordinate, and oversee supply chain operations activities across the organization, ensuring development and implementation of efficient operations and cost-effective systems to meet current and future needs of the organization. They will lead and execute programs, policies, and initiatives utilizing knowledge, skills, and abilities as applied to United Wheels, Inc.’s (the Company) strategic and tactical plans. Ensuring that department initiatives, individual efforts and processes are aligned with all stakeholders needs and expectations. They will exhibit leadership, positive morale and mentoring skills commensurate with this position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Establishes, implements, and communicates the strategic direction of the organization’s operations department - global demand planning, purchasing, supply chain, warehousing, and service
- Collaborates with Executive Leadership Team to develop and meet company goals while supplying expertise and guidance on operations projects and systems.
- Collaborates with other departments to carry out the organization’s overall goals and objectives.
- Identifies, recommends, and implements new processes, technologies, and systems to improve and streamline organizational processes and use of resources and space utilizing Lean Sigma principles.
- Ensures that departmental decisions and project plans such as those for staffing, development, organization, material efficiency, hardware acquisitions, and facilities are in line with the organization’s business plan and vision.
- Establishes and administers the department’s budget.
- Presents periodic performance reports and metrics to the Chief Operating Officer and other leadership.
- Maintains knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in operations management.
- Identifies training needs and ensures proper training is developed and provided.
- As a member of the – Executive Leadership Team, actively participate and provide leadership for direction that delivers enhanced operating efficiency, improved financial performance and increased Shareholder value.
- Working knowledge production planning, scheduling, forecasting, and fulfillment.
- Participate in SOP meetings and provide input on the operational efficiencies for receipts and shipments from each US Distribution Center.
- Collaborate with affiliated Covation subsidiaries to deliver an end-to-end Lean Supply Chain.

Key Accountabilities*

Supply Chain*
- Manages the supply chain to achieve Company sales goals and profit goals through effective demand management to ensure optimal inventory levels consistent with annual profit plan to maximize working capital efficiency.
- Lead sourcing efforts for cost of goods sold improvement for both, direct and indirect costs. Identify new suppliers (utilizing a global view of the supplier universe), to ensure capacity, category expansion capabilities, geographic needs, as well as reduction in transportation and tariff exposure.
- Establish seamless, well-integrated processes across the supply chain to create cohesion between planning, sourcing and procurement, warehousing and customer service
- Partner with the senior business leaders, to put in place business processes and procedures to realize targeted improvements; recommend short and long-range objectives which are consistent with organization objectives and develop a continuously growing stream of revenue and profit.
- Participate in SOP meetings and provide input on the operational efficiencies for receipts and shipments from each UWI Distribution Center.
- Manages all finished goods inventory storage; manages all warehouse operations; develops supplier finished goods loading preparation.
- Develop a global and diversified supply chain to ensure competitive costs, sufficient capacity, product diversification, tariff minimization and freight optimization to achieve world class landed cost of goods.
- Create an integrated supply planning process to assure proper inventory management while meeting the highest customer service levels
- Partner with Global Sales team to create SOP process for efficient management and communication of sales, inventory and customer service level KPI’s
- Develop and report on metrics/KPI’s for all aspects of supply chain performance.

Logistics/Warehousing*
- Lead, plan and execute best practices in logistics and operations for all UWI distribution centers including inventory targets, receiving, storing, shipping, returned/damaged goods, and freight maintenance to ensure customer requirements are met in a cost-effective manner.
- Develop cost effective global distribution / logistics strategies to manage / control costs of warehousing, storage, and transportation.
- Oversees domestic and international freight moves, including container shipments to supplier schedules and supplier shipping orders through the adherence to on plan receipt of ocean container, and competitive in-country freight rates to meet Company requirements.
- Monitor and plan container shipments to supplier schedules and supplier shipping orders. Plan and execute the receipt of ocean containers to meet Company requirements.
- Ensures inventory receipts, storage and shipping requirements to suit customer demands are cost effective.
- Operates all warehouses (Domestic [2] and International (Canada, Mexico, UK, and EU) to within budget metrics with annual improvements in labor efficiency and reduced processing/handling costs.
- Develop a warehousing footprint plan to efficiently service markets at optimal costs
- Negotiate and manage global ocean freight contracts ensuring competitive costing
- Manage incoming supply to balance supplier capacity with warehouse capacity and overall company inventory metrics
- Manage operation at companies global warehousing ensure efficient operation and world class customer service levels and inventory control

Customer Service*
- Responsible for Consumer and Customer parts service inventory, shipping and receiving.
- Improve Customer Service levels as measured by Fill Rates, On Time Shipments and Total Order Acceptance.
- Transform Customer Service to be industry leading with regard to DTC service levels.
- Manage customer/consumer service department ensuring world class customer service levels
- Develop DTC customer service to support growing segment of business

Supervisory Responsibilities*

- Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains management-level staff in the department.
- Oversees the daily workflow of the department.

- Handles discipline and termination of employees in conjunction with Human Resources and accordance with company policy.
Education and/or Experience
- BS or BA Degree, preferably in Business Management, Supply Chain or Logistics.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in Supply Chain management, including logistics management, exposure to and knowledge of customer service, production planning, distribution/warehousing, and working with Asian suppliers.
- Track record of KPI improvements and successful process re-engineering.
- This position will require approximately 15% domestic travel and occasional international travel. Ability to obtain a valid passport is required.
