The Vice President Workforce Planning is accountable for the strategic planning and execution of workforce planning for both front office and back office across all UHC lines of business including a global footprint inclusive of external. This leader will play a critical role in leading transformation initiatives such as variable comp incentives, flexible scheduling and retention.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead the strategy for the development and delivery of long-range, short-range and real-time capacity management to all the customer interactive/customer supporting functions (inbound call, outbound call, chat, email, asynchronous messaging, claims, appeals, benefit configuration, etc.) within the UHC Operations & Experience
  • Oversee the development of overall, holistic network plan and resource supply strategy to efficiently and effectively balance resources across all UHC LOB’s including end to end plan (resourcing, training, redeployment availability)
  • Provide evaluation of long-term WFM/WFP tools and procedures - identify and develop specific process enhancements and solutions; support automation that optimizes WFM to drive simplified user experiences and efficiencies
  • Leads modeling and analysis of operational and procedural changes to determine FTE impacts to the operations
  • Partner with and matrix to business leaders to provide control over financials, capacity planning, cost/benefit analyses, strategy, capital spending, project prioritization and other analytic initiatives
  • Provide a strategic perspective to enterprise-wide staffing challenges to facilitate and manage financial performance
  • Develop and implement planning strategies across all UHC lines of business that support broad based planning themes such as Contact Rate Analysis, productivity analysis, scenario analysis and deep-dive impact analysis.; these strategies will continue to drive business initiatives, alignment across the operations LOB and overall efficiencies as it is viewed holistically versus the lines of business managing individually
  • Proactively drive efficiencies within the business through process improvement and program implementations to more effectively manage operational performance and resource-driven metrics (e.g., overtime)
  • Champion and drive consistent operational strategy across diverse Lines of Business
  • Drive the consolidation of other workforce planning organizations within UHC to provide higher capability in more effective ways; actively seek ways to work across boundaries to achieve higher levels of efficiency and effectiveness
  • Drive the front and back-office planning tool technology/strategy across UHC and partner with Optum counterparts to align and realize opportunities
  • Execute needs analysis, develop requirements, engage technology vendors and make measurable progress in transforming the WFM tools platform
  • Lead the planning organization in partnership with LOB, technology and Operations leaders to develop, implement and participate in operations-based improvement projects and initiatives
  • Ensure Workforce Planning and Management is duly represented and considered across a range of projects (e.g., Workforce of the Future, Consumerism work, customer journey value mapping)
  • Align strategic business objectives with Variable Comp incentives; enable a function within Workforce Planning & Management to administer these incentives while driving for transformational thinking / recognition

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree or comparable experience
  • 12+ years executive level experience leading WFP/WFM in a call, claim, centralized worker knowledge environment in one or more of the following industries: health care, financial services, retail, technology or consulting
  • 12+ years experience with leading large workforce management teams with proven success at developing and maximizing talent while creating a high performing team
  • Successful track record of leading large-scale, complex transformation programs with aggressive timelines
  • Proven experience in building buy-in to drive large scale change by influencing others, modeling change and leveraging technology
  • Lead the development of operating models, mechanisms and process that drive effective execution of strategy
  • Ability to collaborate, influence and obtain buy-in from complex array of stakeholders across a large, global organizations
  • Build and sustain productive relationships across key functional groups to include operations, finance, human capital and technology
  • Demonstrate project management expertise to include planning, organization and monitoring
  • Analytical skillset that actively leverages operational and customer experience data to influence operational execution and process design
  • Experience in a client and/or customer facing operations role
  • Strong technical acumen to successfully translate operational needs into technical capabilities
  • Strong contact center industry knowledge in complex fast-paced multi-skilled & multi-site global environments
  • Excellent analytical and mathematical skills

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only : The salary range for Colorado/Connecticut/Nevada residents is $250,000 to $300,000.
