TITLE: Volunteer Coach
REPORTS TO: Director of Advocacy
CASA of El Paso has a full-time Volunteer Coach position available. The Volunteer Coach will motivate, empower, guide, coach and supervise CASA volunteers as they advocate in the best interest of children to whom CASA is appointed by the courts, while ensuring accountability for meeting CASA of El Paso’s values, policies, and standards of case management are met. Additionally, the Volunteer Coach will fulfill the performance standard of Texas and National CASA, ensuring that advocates comply with the statutory obligations of guardian ad litem and meeting or exceeding the expectations of the El Paso courts. The Volunteer Coach must demonstrate cultural humility in their interaction with children and families.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: Coordinate the delivery of direct advocacy services to assigned foster children through the management of 30 volunteer advocates. The Volunteer Coach will coach each assigned advocate in the provision of their duties ensuring adherence to the volunteer advocate job description and core duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
A. Supervision/Coaching:
1. Supervise activities of volunteer advocates and perform duties temporarily when volunteer advocate is unable to do so.
2. Coordinate and supervise casework responsibilities, including:
a. Family and child contacts,
b. Professional contacts,
c. Support services,
d. Linkage to community resources,
e. Assistance with court report preparation and timely submission,
f. Appearance at court hearings,
g. Appearance at other case related meetings,
h. Maintenance of case records.
3. Attend and assist in volunteer advocate training as requested.
4. Assist in the timely submission and review of each volunteer advocate’s case activity monthly logs.
5. Evaluate each volunteer advocate’s case activity and performance.
B. Case Management:
6. Maintain knowledge of child placement options, levels of care, and DFPS policies and procedures.
7. Attend all court hearings and other case related meetings with the volunteer advocate. In the event that the volunteer is unable to attend, attend all meetings in their place and provide representation of the GAL role.
8. Provide timely accurate reports for submission to the court and to other parties on the case.
9. Provide notifications of meetings and court hearings to the volunteer advocate.
10. Maintain up-to-date case files, including progress notes, reports, motions, and correspondence, according to CASA’s policies & procedures, specifically following minimum expectation standards. Ensure continuous compliance with Texas CASA’s quality assurance guidelines and requirements.
11. Maintain and enter all case and volunteer advocate data in CASA’s database to ensure accurate funding and statistical reporting.
12. Complete all child activity logs, notification of victim’s compensation benefits, and other case related documentation on a timely basis as outlined in the Volunteer Coach’s handbook.
13. Promote and maintain congenial relationships with advocates and all other professionals.
14. Adhere to National CASA Standards, Texas CASA Standards and Texas State Law.
15. Determine, through proper documentation, when implementation of progressive
discipline of an advocate is necessary; discusses with Team Lead and Director of
Advocacy prior to notifying the volunteer.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:
1. Additional duties as required.
MINIMUM EDUCATION:
1. Bachelor’s degree required.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
1. Prior experience with the supervision or coordination of volunteers preferred.
2. Prior experience in the provision of case management or advocacy services with children required.
3. Prior volunteer experience required.
4. Clear criminal background required.

1. Proven leadership ability.
2. Excellent attention to detail.
3. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
4. Persistent and diplomatic in encouraging volunteer motivation and case advocacy.
5. Self-starter with minimal guidance required.
6. High organized.
7. Ability to coach and empower a diversity of individuals.
8. Able to work collaboratively in a team environment.
This is a grant funded position subject to renewal funding and performance.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
The Volunteer Coach will be expected to have periodic transportation to attend court hearings, trainings in remote locations, swearing in ceremonies, child visits, continuing education opportunities., etc. The Volunteer Coach will be required to have a flexible schedule. Time will be spent in the office that could involve intermittent physical activities including bending, reaching, sitting and walking during working hours. Several hours each day will be spent at a PC. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable a person with physical disabilities to perform the job.
