Who We Need:

The Vice President of Communications is responsible for the strategic development and management of Cardinal Financial’s communications and oversees a team that is responsible for messaging, positioning, and execution of the function’s narrative.

Through communications, the ideal candidate will enhance the employee experience for Cardinal Financial and external parties. This includes partnering with the President, SVP of Brand and Customer Experience, and the Executive Leadership Team to define and execute the global narrative, and operational strategy with oversight for all official messaging.

This executive will provide coaching and talking points to relevant leaders on market changes and pertinent company-related issues and media inquiries as well as work with marketing and branding professionals within the company to help shape press releases as needed. He/she will be the point person in a rapid-response team should the need arise, and will ensure proactively, positive messaging regarding the organization.

Key Functions

The Vice President of Communications will oversee Product Communications, Business Communications, Policies & Procedures, and Training. Reporting to the SVP, Brand and Customer Experience, the VP of Communications will work closely with the business and C-Suite leadership, as well as key stakeholders such as Compliance, Legal, Production, Operations, Support, and Mortgage Technology.

  • Oversees business communications related to change management, internal communications, culture and engagement initiatives, and market updates to the organization.
  • Responsible for the deliverability of internal communications via our intranet, the Hub. This team also handles a weekly pod-cast; the Inside Track, to help with overall readership and engagement as well as manages the corporate communications calendar and the culture crew; an annual employee engagement initiative.
  • Owns the process and partnership for all documentation for the organization from job-specific procedures through compliance and legal policies. Members of this team also handles Octane (our in-house proprietary Loan Origination System {LOS}) writing via release notes and maintaining the Octane Guide.
  • Acting as the key stakeholder responsible for document management (organizing and tagging documents) through the Document Management Tool (DMT).
  • Partners with the business to develop training curriculum outlines and plans for each business unit (including new hire training) while cross-referencing procedures, documenting and scheduling training through administration support. Content management within the Learning Management Tool (LMS) is handled by this team and supplying audit support and content changes from guideline changes, policy and procedure changes, technology changes or audit findings.
  • Enhances, develops and executes an integrated global corporate communications strategy that will successfully reinforce the company’s business objectives by working closely with senior leaders.
  • Own and lead C-suite conversations by positively handling high-profile communications issues and crisis management, demonstrating sound judgment, and persuasive counseling to senior management.
  • Lead collaborative working sessions with an action-driven mindset for technical communication projects and initiatives related to products and technologies within the organization (Intranet, Learning Management Tool, Document Management Tool, etc.)
  • Collaborate productively with other departments to deliver consistent, aligned and impactful communications.
  • Through skills and needs assessments, develop and manage a productive structure that encourages creativity and collaboration.
  • Continuously review processes within Communications and cross-functional teams that require communications to ensure the team and the work have appropriate methods for completion; process improvement skills are highly-desired.
  • Organize, oversee and develop talking points for press appearances by the executive team.
  • Act as official company spokesperson.
  • Manage crisis communications and reputational issues as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or related experience.
  • Minimum 10-12 years of experience within a Communications department, preferably from a high-growth, financial services organization.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience leading a vast team of writers which includes: policy & procedure writers, technical product/software writers, and business writers, and creative writers.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in communications and digital platforms, as well as strategic value proposition development and creative execution.
  • Proven track record of delivering impactful external and internal communications, including message development, communications planning, segmentation, and measurement.
  • Clear track record of excellence in developing and executing brand and business communications; corporate public relations function experience is a plus.
  • Strong record of nurturing positive relationships with senior leaders, editors and reporters of domestic news organizations and be able to develop and nurture relationships with front-line and senior management.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with senior leadership and interface effectively and positively with stakeholders.
  • Experienced in handling transformational shifts within an organization and ability to manage the differences in opinions and culture.
  • Strong project management experience is a must.
  • Experienced in crisis communications is required; extensive relationships with diverse press contacts are a plus.

Tools & Systems:

  • Experience with Google Suite (Google Docs, Google Sheets specifically)
  • Project Management Software experience; Asana preferred
  • Document Management Tools (DMT), Intranet Management

The expected base salary for this position ranges from one-hundred and forty-five thousand to one hundred and sixty-five thousand dollars annually, determined based on the applicant's experience, skillset, education, training, certificates, and licenses.
