The Washington State Archives preserves and provides the people of Washington with easy access to millions of legal and historical records of our state and local governments. Washington's Digital Archives is the first of its kind in the nation and accessible worldwide via the web.

Citizens depend on the Archives to research genealogy, state and city history, property transfers, legislative intent, court records, and academic projects. Archives branches are on the Capital Campus in Olympia and college campuses around the state.

This position has an option of a up-to a one year in-training at the Warehouse Operator 1 level and can be filled at either the Warehouse Operator 1 or Warehouse Operator 2 level.
Warehouse Operator 2 (In-Training)
Full time, permanent
This journey level position reports to the customer service supervisor and is responsible to retrieve, route, sort, scan, and shelve boxes and files in the State Archives Records Center (RC). Position operates self-propelled lift trucks and manual warehouse equipment to retrieve and shelve records.

This position reports to the customer service supervisor and is responsible to retrieve, route, sort, scan, and shelve boxes and files in the State Archives Records Center. Position operates self-propelled lift trucks and manual warehouse equipment to retrieve and shelve records.

Duties

Daily Warehouse Operations
Tasks include:

  • Operates self-propelled lift trucks (stock pickers, forklift, and pallet jacks) and manual warehouse equipment (hand trucks, carts, pallet jacks)
  • Operates Records Management System (RMS), the Records Center’s warehousing/records management database to accurately receive, track, research, and retrieve records from RC holdings
  • Retrieves and mails/directs requested records (boxes and files) and dispositions from RC warehouse and RC annex
  • Receives, verifies, sorts and puts away incoming DOC files to correct location
  • Performs specialized disposition process on DOC files for transfer to the Archives
  • Shelves and scans incoming boxes using RMS to verify each barcode is valid within the system and placed in the proper location
  • Sorts, scans, and interfiles returned records from customer agencies
  • Loads, unloads, and sorts incoming records, mail and supplies
  • Fulfills requests for supplies from customer agencies
  • Performs daily and weekly equipment maintenance and safety checklists
  • Drives RC vehicles to access RC annex to perform warehouse duties

Record Pick-up
Tasks include:
  • Supports more senior RC staff by serving as back-up truck driver during records delivery and pick-ups across the state
  • Utilizes barcode tracking hardware to verify records for pickup at customer locations
Office Work/Miscellaneous
Tasks include:
  • Utilizes RCMS to supply barcodes and verify reference requests
  • Utilizes RMS to research and notify customers of issues with reference requests
  • Answers customer contact via phone or email in a timely manner
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Qualifications at the Warehouse Operator 2 level (Range 34G: $3,246-$3,374):

  • One year of experience operating heavy equipment such as forklifts, order pickers, electric pallet jacks, and vehicles up to a Class 6 truck in a records storage or warehouse environment
  • Ability to read and write English language
Required Qualifications at the Warehouse Operator 1 level (32G: $3,096-$3,558):
  • Ability to read and write English language
  • Six months of experience in warehousing, stock keeping, shipping, or receiving and operation of material handling equipment
  • Current Washington State driver's license or have a requested and obtained an appropriate accommodation
Preferred/Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience in warehousing, stock keeping, shipping, or receiving and operation of material handling equipment
  • Experience working as a Warehouse Operator 1 in the State Archives Records Center

Supplemental Information

Working Conditions
In this position, the incumbent works primarily in a warehouse setting where lift trucks are in use, work is performed at heights up to 36 feet, and equipment hazards are present. Safety awareness and knowledge must be practiced. The standard work hours are Monday-Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Occasional statewide travel will be required that may require overnight stays. Infrequent overnight trips (5 or 6 max/year) in trucks to eastern WA for record delivery and pickup, supplies, surplus, etc. The incumbent in this position operates machinery such as box trucks, order pickers, forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks, computer, phone, copier, and fax. Safety shoes and uniforms are required and supplied by the office. Incumbent of this position interacts with customers, both internal and external.
