Position Summary
The Wound Care Technician (WCT) has duties and responsibilities related to patient care in the ambulatory clinic environment. The individual displays responsible behaviors, communicates effectively to others, and functions as a member of the healthcare team.
Primary Duties
- Prepares patients for examination and treatment. Performs intake, takes vital signs and records patient history.
- Prepares exam and treatment rooms; select, setup and maintain medical supplies and equipment for all examinations and procedures.
- Sets up equipment and instruments and prepares patients for procedures. Performs patient care as directed and within training provided such as removal and application of dressings, application of topical therapies, and finger sticks for glucose testing.
- Utilize both clean and sterile technique including NPWT applications and other procedures.
- May collect and/or transport specimens.
- May assist in scheduling patients for tests, initial and follow up appointments.
- Maintains patient files, records, and other information including entry of data into electronic medical record.
- May provide phone screening and routing of patient information to appropriate clinical staff and/or physician.
- Collaborates with a variety of personnel and departments to ensure smooth clinic operations.
- Establishes priorities and accomplishes tasks in a timely manner.
- Provides patient instructions and care as directed by the provider.
- Ensures orders for home health, durable medical equipment, skilled nursing facilities, etc. are completed and communicated appropriately.
- Assists with, or completes, nurse visits as assigned by the provider.
Qualifications
Required:
- High School Diploma/GED diploma.
- Current BLS-HCP by date of hire.
- Medical Terminology knowledge and CPT/ICD coding experience.
Preferred:
- Experience using Electronic Medical Record programs.
- National Certification or Registration as a Medical Assistant or current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant license through the State of Idaho.
- Wound Care experience
- Experience in a clinic or hospital setting.
